Shame that the 2nd deadliest attack on the US, was largely(or totally ) ignored by TV, Cable etc, regarding Pearl Harbor. That should have been marked as "forever remembered", the same as 9/11 but maybe if it doesn't make good timing for commercials and profit, then it's not as important.

Of course I'm being sarcastic, but I still feel it is a shame it was ignored by Cable movies today.

We still find Civil War movies, movies about famous people in other countries, but to skip over Dec 7th, the "day that shall live in infamy", is just not right
in my opinion.

I suppose F.D.R. couldn't have predicted his speech would have a limited shelf life.

The philipines were sort of a colony or commonwealth of the USA then, so the philippinoes were sort of Americans, like Puerto Ricans or Samoans. Let's remember all the mean stuff Japan did in the philippines.

Japan struck Hawaii as an act of pre-emptive war after we stopped selling them oil to use in their conquest of east asia.

In the new geopolitical arena Japan is an important ally against whatever else we are supposed to feel threatened by. American kids love something called "manga" and pokemon.

I don't know what was on cable tv, as I don't have it. maybe stuff that happened before cable television is legacy history. American Economist Thorstein Veblen anticipated the rise of Television, Playboy Magazine, and Hip Hop in his groundbreaking work, "The theory of the leisure class". Americans watch television to learn what to consume, which is mostly cargo made in Japan and China.

We shouldn't encourage antipathy against Japan, because they are our potential allies against China. Americans might construe movies about Pearl Harbor as an incitation against Japan, the way they understood that 9/11 was a reason to invade Iraq. We need Japan as a potential ally against China, who are now possibly a threat after using all the money we spend on Chinese merchandise to loan us money and influence policy.

At least that is my guess on the motives of media moguls and washington DC. American politicians conquer american voters by selling them the idea that they can expect to do a lot of driving and consuming every day. This takes oil. But everyone needs oil. The japanese need oil. the chinese need oil.

I have it on good authority that a new music network (MTV or MTV-like) is re-launching out of Beirut. Hip-Hop world!

Right. Let's forget Pearl Harbor's attack and our people in the service's sacrifice. Let's forget 9/11 and pat the supporters of those murderers on the back too. The United States is always the "Bad Guys?.

Maybe we should throw in a national holiday for Hitler's birthday too?

Who suggested any of the things you posted? And can you tell me from what countries the 9/11 attackers came from? And can you tell me why we haven't attacked Germany or England or many of the countries where terrorists met and planned and trained?

If you had problems looking for programming that dealt with Pearl Harbor, you weren't looking very hard.

Is there some reason why we should continue to hate the Japanese or the Germans?

Hitlers birthday happens to be the anniversary of the tragic
events at Columbine HS which is a big topic in the media when it comes around.

History Channel had some great documentaries playing all day and I learned a lot about the code breakers that worked for the US government in trying to figure out what will happen.

Turns out that three stations on the eastern coast of Japan faked/acted like they were airplanes that were still stationed on ships within the pacific ocean, when in reality those airplanes were heading towards Pearl Harbor. The US picked up the signals from those three bases and was fooled.

Another theory was that FDR and the US provoked Japan into striking Pearl Harbor.

Many theories, it's all very interesting and educational to say the least.

My apologies to anyone offended.

It was one of those times when I shouldn't have posted anything at all. I was caught up in some personal issues at the time that I should have stayed off posting.
I also do not advocate hating anyone, now or from the past.
Once again, my apologies.

I won't post when not entirely focused on the issue involved.
