Kosovo seeks independence from Serbs

Ongoing diplomatic conversations between Albanian and Serbian officials came to a end this week and Kosovo will be seeking independence from Serbia soon, officials said.

I don't know what to think of it. There will probably be fighting going on. It doesn't really affect my family personally since they're in Bosnia. Still, that's like Kentucky and Pennsylvania fighting a war (distance wise).

It's the same story as Israel and Palestine. Kosovo is technically Serbian land and is now part of the Republic of Serbia. But being so close to the border of Serbia and Albania, the population of Kosovo is around 90% Albanian.

Serbian officials claim that it is still their land, but Albanians claim that it was once their land and should be their land now since 90% of the population is Albanian.

The only way I can see this being settled is if they split the land up into two provinces and make people move. It was done so in Yugoslavia, it should be done in Iraq, and it will probably be done in Kosovo as well.

Regardless, it can be solved diplomatically and not with blood-shed.

I remember when those wars were in the news. They'd show home movies of when the serbs and croates and albanians were somewhat integrated and cordial with each other. Then the Soviet Union collapsed and they went to war with each other.

The same happened with sunnis and shiites and christian Iraqis when they were liberated from Saddam Hussein. Ethnic tensions grew, and then things just went nuts.

They should use Cleveland as an example. If they introduce Bussing, Iraq will become integrated again. Like Cleveland, only without fresh water and reliable electricity.
