The earliest episodes of Sesame Street were dangerous to the mental and physical health of young children? Apparently so. The new DVD release of those episodes comes with an adults only warning:

Thank goodness for Barney! No more of those excursions into reality for young minds; better a stirring rendition of "I love you. You love me. Life is scary beee affrraaiidd!"

I could actually watch Sesame Street with the kids and enjoy it. Most of what passes for entertainment for young children today is painful to watch.

It seems to me the lack of good parenting, lack of parents explaining anything to their kids, and leaving that to other people, is the problem, and not Sesame Street.
My older kids, now in their 30s grew up watching those early Sesame Streets, and horror movies, there was little "cap" on what they were allowed to watch as long as it was WITH either their mom, dad or both.

Neither of my "kids" are messed up, my son being level headed and helping a successful business thrive, and my oldest daughter raising a fine family.

Neither of them were sheltered "nerds", but they WERE set straight by mom and dad as toddlers, regarding what was sensible and what was not, what was right and what was wrong, what they should and shouldn't do.

To blame Sesame Street seems like National Enquirer material to me.

TV is trash. When they start broadcasting only in Hi-definition or whatever you're better off doing away with it entirely. get the kids tools or musical instruments or tennis balls or paint brushes.
