I think this is a great thing for Lakewood.
Is anyone else surprised that it passed by such a wide margin?

No, not at all. I really believe so many of the people I know who chose to live in Lakewood do so because they love the city and are passionate about doing whatever it takes to save our city from further decline.
This is such a wonderful opportunity for those of us with children in the school system. Thank you Issue 4 supporters!
The positive energy this is generating is very good for our city. We have to start somewhere....

I guess I'm not surprised Mike. What Stephanie says above might be one reason people voted for it - it's a good reason and I hope this helps. There seems to be a lot of forward momentum here in Lakewood. I would hate to see that come to a stop.

I am disappointed in the number of voters though. I thought there might be more. I am also eager to see what the increase really will be too...

While I am pleased that Issue 4 passed, I'm not quite sure how to take it.

Yes, 68% in favor is a huge margin of victory. However, only 11.8% of Lakewood's registered voters actually voted (44,062 registered voters in Lakewood - obtained for the Cuy. Co. BOE at 8:45 this morning - 5,225 total votes cast regarding Issue 4). FYI - Lakewood had a 59% turn-out on November 2, 2004.

I know the ability to have greater control over stimulating (or not) the electorate's interest is a reason why May elections are scheduled.

I would be happy to find the percentage of turn-out for the first phase building levy vote if someone reminds me of the year and month it was passed. It may be an interesting comparison.

I guess I'm doubting whether this vote is an accurate gauge of the community's support for its schools.

A nice turn out in the L-Room to watch the votes come in.
