Earth Day Warning: traffic jam.

Happy Earth Day.

Try not to celebrate it by going to the zoo. Traffic is backed up on Pearl all the way to at least the nearest highway exit ramps. The same goes for Denison. Passengers are literally leaving cars in the road to pick up fast food during the wait.

Or, you can take RTA and not deal with the traffic...which is what I did.

The buses did seem not immune to the stopped cars surrounding them when I was there, around noon. I had been on my bicycle, so had time to stare at the cars and answer the occasional question. "is there an accident?" people asked me.

"Everyone is trying to to get to the zoo" I replied.

an hour later I walked to a corner store, and did notice traffic was backed up north of the 90 or 71

It's nice to see how all the self-professed Earth lovers took public transit to prevent any traffic problems. *cough*

I am carfree by choice and am not even an environmentalist. I have never met an environmentalist in person who was carfree. Being an environmentalist used to mean putting your lifestyle where your mouth is. Now it just means you pay $20 a year to subscribe to the Sierra Club magazine and support government regulations that do not inconvenience you too much on a day to day basis.

I have never claimed to be a 'self-professed Earth lover'.

David! :) Hey sorry I was being a little tongue in cheek. I was not referring to you. I was referring to others. Hope you had fun. I'll probably go next year if I get a chance. Doug

Yeah, it was pretty cool. I haven't been to the zoo since I was a kid, and it was free since I was using RTA, so why not?

I didn't stay long as it was starting to get packed really fast, but I was able to get a few really good photos taken.

nice pictures - I recognize that one guy downtown by Public Square. He changed his outift recently. I think that's the "bird man," but I may have him confused with someone else. I did not previously know that the zoo had camels.

PS Now I see what is done with the $45 I pay to Cox for cable internet. haha

The irony of getting into a traffic jam on the way to an Earthday celebration is kind of funny. Hopefully there was enough education and free food there to make up for that.

It is more funny because they were in a traffic jam and I was not. It is human nature to think this is funny, so long as you are not the one in them.
