Orphaned Litter

The Lakewood Animal Hospital just had someone bring in a dying mother cat with 5 one week old kittens. The mom had to be put to sleep. Would anyone be willing to foster these kittens for five to seven weeks? The Citizens Committee for a Lakewood Animal Shelter (CCLAS) would reimburse expenses. Please call me at (216) 221-7953 or send a private message if you are interested in helping out.

Have you found a foster home yet? What all do baby kitties need? I would foster them if no one has yet. I have a dog but she is nice and the kitties would have to live in the basement with Mr. Bunny! How much daily care do they need?

Since these kittens don't have their mom, there is a lot of work involved. For the next 4-6 weeks, they need to be fed every two hours or so and stimulated to go to the bathroom. Ideally, a lactating mom cat will come through the shelter and could feed them and help them eliminate in a foster home.

If you are interested in fostering, we do ask that you keep them separated from any other animals in your home.

If you have more questions about the care they need, the staff at the Lakewood Animal Hospital can answer better than I can. Their number is 226-0400.

Thanks for your concern.

I wish I could take them but I barely care for my kids every two hours! (just kidding) I don't think I could do that with small ones right now but I hope they find a home soon. I would get it in the hard copy of the paper before the weekend.
