Was anyone listening to the police scanner last night?
Seemed to be a rash of buglaries.
Homes and cars.
Just wondering.
Keep eyes and ears open.

Yes. Not to you Jim, because your well aware, but to the doubters and the "it doesn't happen here" people, please refer to my former posts on the subject.
Last week an armed robbery, daylight, in a busy parking lot occured just south of our city's southern border, nice neighborhood, plus several other "things".

just south of the border, that's in Cleveland, right? I definitely believe it.

haven't had the chance to listen in lately, but my brother just showed me this video and I figured it's on the same topic I might share it.

the video is 2:38 long, and just when you thought the action was over for the robber, even more goes wrong... haha.

There was a huge party on Rockway New Year's Eve that degenerated into a big fight on someone's front lawn. We had drunken people walking up and down the street screaming obscenities at each other nonstop. Eventually a neighbor opened his window and yelled out that he had called police, which caused the fight to stop and people scatter. Sadly, an element of racism was in the fight, as I saw a group of African-Americans jump into a car, with a crowd behind them yelling the N-word, and hastily leaving (though they did yell back that the crowd was white trash). I never did see the Police show up, though I wish they did. Even sadder is that on our end of the street there's a number of families with toddlers, so they had to hear all that swearing and fighting. All because a large group of people got drunk on New Year's Eve and started fighting. I can't remember who said it first, but someone called New Year's Eve "Amateur Night," which indeed it is. It's become an excuse to get drunk, nothing more.
Break-ins

About 2 weeks ago a family business of ours was broken into near Atkins. I also read about a home break-in on Edwards.
North of the highway is apparently not exempt either.

The day I posted this was after an incredible night where car windows were being broken by bricks so that the inside could be taken. Christmas gifts, and briefcases. There was a point where there seemed to be a rash north of Clifton. Recently it would seem River and Bay have been getting hit pretty hard.
I did not hear the Rockway call go out and was listening. There was another punch up at McCarthy's that spilled into the streets, where a call went out for the fire truck to come and wash off the street. I presume that was blood they were washing off.

I was walking down the street today and saw two dudes taking assorted random stuff out of a van into a shady building. The Van was packed full of random stuff.
Some people carry around miniature foghorns to scare off feral dogs and wild animals. Something like that that imitates a police siren or an amplified voice saying "This is the Police" might be useful.

I heard about the fight on rockway over the radio. I also heard it from people that were there, since today was the first day back from winter break and everyone in high school loves to tell stories like that.
*sigh*
it's good that our EMS squads respond very fast to calls. that's for sure.

so what did they say about the fight on Rockway? Did it start in a house party, or in a bar? It was quite loud, and it didn't help that people kept walking down the street screaming at each other, and then turn around and walk back up the street, still screaming at each other.

the fight on rockway was from a house party. I don't know any of the details, and I didn't hear anything about the racial part of it.. so that's suprising.

Right - they said a house party had turned into a street fight, and that several neighbors called. Couple cars were sent but I think that they may have arrived after the fight broke up.
It was a busy night.
It reminded us of a similar situation that happened on our street a few years ago. It was frightening because we heard people yelling that one of the combatants had a knife. Our situation had racial overtones as well. People who had been partying together got drunk enough to fight and hurl racial epithets.

We have a thin blue line of, say 88 law enforcement personnel with guns to protect us from the chaos swirling around us.....
Wait until Citi-Stat, technology or capture of scientific data by City Hall will compel the right decision.
Give me break.
A city manager?
I once hoped a talking stick posse with capes would do the trick.
Let's wake up and smell the coffee.
Police levy, please.......
