Council Race

Other citizens who have pulled petitions include:

Edward Fitzgerald
Michael Dever
Daniel Shields
Keith Ludwig

There are others out there who have petitions but did not leave their names with the Board of Elections. I have also heard that Tony George will be fielding a few candidates. This should be an exciting race, especially with multiple candidates. I left off the political affiliations because we are a non-partisan city. I believe we should keep our focus on issues, personalities, and work ethic. Those are the things that contribute to an effective or ineffective city council.

Good call; I made the change.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Ryan Patrick Demro is running for an at-large seat?

DL,
Good question, but why would he ever do a thing like that? I have heard that he really likes his Ward II seat and is content to stay in place. Although, anything can happen in politics :)

Hmmm....

A non-answer if I ever saw one.

I've heard several reasons.

When I last saw the Councilman, he appeared to be engaged in some sort of "green" study and I couldn't ask him.

Green Study?

DL,

Green study? Was I working out in the yard?

To Interested Parties:

To run for city council you must be a registered voter and have been a resident for at least one year.

You may obtain petitions to run at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections located at 2925 Euclid Avenue. There is no cost for petitions.

Twenty-five signatures are necessary to run in Ward I, and 50 are required for the At-Large seats.

Ryan Patrick Demro

Thanks for the heads up on this. What is the deadline for filing?

The filing deadline is July 21, 2005 at 4:00pm. Anybody who plans to run a credible campaign should file prior to that date and raise some cash.

Ryan

You mean there's a residency requirement for our Councilmen? I would think that by limiting council candidates to residents, that we're missing some very qualified persons who would otherwise be willing to serve.

Residency, Again?

Ryan-

Was it Dan Shields who was in your Ward 2 race? I know Dan Brennan and Frank Murtaugh had their hats in the ring, but I simply can't remember who else ran in the last Ward 2 race.

DL,
Yes, it was me, Brennan, Shields, and Murtaugh. Rick Kansa and Joan Burda pulled petitions, but never filed them. On another note, Timothy H. Carroll is also running for the at-Large seat, look for more info on him to come. I am excited to see this many candidates, if only 5 more would file we would have a real party on our hands (a nonpartisan party of course :)
