The Brain Drain in action

Post by Joe McClain »

I'm a former Lakewoodite, but now I work at the College of William and Mary. Here's what I found in the months since I've been here.

The president of the college is from Ravenna.
The number 2 guy, the provost, is from Cleveland.
The vice provost for research is an Ignatius grad who used to hang out on my old Lakewood street in high school.
The director of the neurosciences program is from Rocky River. One of the most productive neuroscience faculty is from Cleveland Heights.
The director of publications is from Chagrin Falls.
A photographer we use grew up on W. 98th St.
My neighbor across the street, a plasma physicist, is from Shaker Heights.
(I don't count myself, of course, because we are talking about a brain drain.)

That's what I found out in a few months.

Joe

Out of that entire list there is only one the city really misses.

Joe

Did you come home to Lakewood this Christmas?

Did you get a kitchen yet?

How is the fishing?

Jim,

I am typing this from a friend's dining room on Lake.

Kitchen was (mostly) finished just as we left--literally. The plumber was packing up as we were loading the car to head north.

Well, I was all set for some steelheading, but the Rocky River is way too high!

If you're in the office this week, I'll make a point of stopping by.

Joe
