The Observation Deck

A note to say "thank you" and "well done" to Mayor George for her article in the current Lakewood Observer!

This is common sense clarity that we all need to take time to read.

Let me extract a few quotes from her article:

"Now, not even ten years after the completion of the capital plan, Lakewood City Schools is advancing multiple options to close schools that were just built. All of the previous planning and investment by this community seems to be ignored if we decide to shut down newly built schools and abandon our neighborhood model."

After having spoken to many community members "[...] the consensus is clear, that Lakewood City Schools should not consider closing schools."

Referring to the leadership of the Lakewood City Schools, the Mayor observes "But at this point, they have failed to put forward a convincing rationale for the current heavy focus on closing schools."

[finally]

"[...] we all know that once schools are closed, they do not come back."

Just to be clear. As a statistics nerd, "speaking with many community members" is in no way a consensus. It just means that the Mayor spoke with many community members. It in no way, shape or form means there is a consensus. The best way to have a consensus would be to vote on it and I am not sure if that will happen.

It's the mayor's loose definition of consensus. Like her expensive pamphlet on gloss paper celebrating her favorable consensus for the Webb Road's resurfacing and sewer/water replacement project with substantial increase in costs for a redesign to allow a multiuse path, bicycles'/pedestrians. It's odd that homes on Webb have signs in their front yard objecting to the project because it moves traffic closer to their homes on a very busy street.
