Despina's Bakery on the east end of Lakewood opened 3 years ago. As we look back over the past 3 years, a lot has happened and come and gone. The ribbon cutting for Despina's bakery kept getting set back, but owner Despina Sarantopoulou, kept putting out her take of great Greek and other pastries.

As the legend of these delicious tidbits spread, the setbacks on the ribbon cutting kept the welcoming event from happening.

None of it deterred Despina, who believes in the city and more importantly her neighborhood and store. The lines grew, and so did the praise and respect for what she had brought to Lakewood.

Last week, the stars aligned for The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Meghan George and Despina. This allowed for the long overdue ribbon cutting to happen.

After that, there came the proclamations from the city. Here with Councilperson Cindy Marx and Mayor Meghan George.

I would encourage all to check it out.
