Cuyahoga Property & Sales Taxes Scam

Ever wonder why Cuyahoga sales tax is highest in the state. In addition to the average effective property tax rate in Ohio is 1.41%. The highest rates are in Cuyahoga County, where the average effective rate is 2.51%.

Taxpayers approve a Cleveland Metro Park levy with the understanding the funding will be used wisely and productive for the benefit of the public, but that's appears to be a false impression. I mailed the following letter to the Board of Park Commissioners.

Subject: Cedar Point Bridge & Wallace Lake Concession/Restroom Buildings.

Dear Commissioners,

Cedar Point Bridge, or is it a bridge too “hard”;
• Start Date: 06-01-2021
• Notice To Proceed Date: 06-01-2021
• Completion Date:
• Scheduled Completion Date: 10-01-2022
• Anticipated Completion Date: 11-01-2024

From the appearance of the bridge’s current construction status, it will not be completed in November, 2024. In fact, it will be a race of time that it took to complete the Golden Gate Bridge. I’m sure the commissioners took in consideration the contractor’s difficulty constructing a bridge to span Rocky River’s width, depth of water, logistics, and the innovation necessary that delayed the bridge’s completion.

Wallace Lake Concession/Restroom Buildings:
• Started fall of 2023
• Projected scheduled opening spring early summer of 2024.

From the current construction project’s status, it appears taxpayers will absorb three times the amount labor costs over any competent contractor to build a 3,842 sq. ft. concession, and s 1,165 sq. ft. restroom. It was astounding, and disturbing to watch a construction crew in slow motion to the point of being almost inert. An example, one man on the roof, two men on the ladder below him taking a full day to attach one sheet of metal roofing. Admittedly the subcontractors, overhead door company and stone masons worked in real time. I understand a Metroparks’s crew is currently assigned to complete the project. However, if they continue to leave the site before 2:00 pm and being absence on days, I doubt the facility will open before Memorial Day 2025.

The public, taxpayers, are observing these crews wasting time and their tax dollars on park construction projects due to the lack the Commissioner’s oversight. The rapidity of the construction of the Metroparks’ construction projects, reminded me of a parliamentarian who said, “I would never accuse my fellow peers of dishonesty, when shear ignorance will suffice.” However, after being in traffic behind a Range Rover, a $100,000 plus British SUV with a Cuyahoga County License 175 exiting the park on Detroit Road, I’m suspecting that may not be the case.
