The complete replacement and expansion of Lakewood Pool will begin at the end of this swim season.
The Board of Education (which runs the pools) and the City of Lakewood ( which owns the park) are anticipating a surge in pools usage in 2023. Plans are being considered that would add 150 parking spaces for cars and buses. Buses? Yes, buses. Even now, before the expansion, the park has seen an increase in the number day car centers and summer schools using Lakewood Park. Those new buses will need loading space and parking space.

Should the new Lakewood Park Pool be open to non-residents?
Should green space be eliminated to make room for more cars?
Should green space be eliminated to make room for more buses?
If we are going to welcome busloads of new users should a designated bus parking zone be created?
How big should the bus zone be?

If busloads of children are being dropped off at the pool who will supervise them?
If those children are in the pool who will escort them into the pool?
Will children under 10 be completely unsupervised?
Does that level of supervision become the responsibility of the Lakewood Board of Education?

Do we owe surrounding Cities open access to our pools?
What do surrounding Cities owe us?
When Rocky River banned Lakewood residents from their new pools do you suppose there was a concerned discussion about what Rocky River owed Lakewood?
How about Westlake?
How about Fairview?
What do we "owe" neighboring cities?

When the City gave Lakewood Hospital's assets to private foundations the Cleveland Clinic and the City of Avon I don't recall seeing a thank you note.

Mr. Call you made some excellent points, thanks. I believe it's just more benevolence from Socalist City of Lakewood, allowing non residents use of the pool. Additional life guards, pool maintenance, security and parking will be necessary. Is this the reason why the Lakewood City Adminstrion, All Green" want to take an acre of grass in the park and turn it into blacktop?

Lakewood residents are not banned from Rocky River Sports Complex, we just need a non-residents pass.

I am curious as to the supervision for Lakewood kids now. I do not remember any when I was young.

They should either make it residents only, or make the spot a money maker with concerts, events, etc.

The last two administrations have proving, doing things half-assed is just not working.
