File Under Hottest Rumor On The Streets,
Lakewood Loses Ward 4 Councilman Daniel O’Malley To A "Hire" Calling

I cannot get into how or why I have this feeling, but in dealing with people in and around town, suddenly the talk about Lakewood Councilman Daniel O’Malley has gone from, “He is doing a good job” to “You know Dan O’Malley has a real future in the real world.” He is making a difference already advocating for his union members to the Bibb administration, where Dan served on the new mayor’s transition team.

Of course it could be something in Dan’s real job with the North Shore Federation Of Labor - A.F.L.C.I.O.

If the rumor is true, I wish Dan the best, he has been good for Council and Lakewood.

Dan O'Malley did everything within his power during the last two election cycles to ensure that Lakewood City Council remain an all-white club. O'Malley and his support of systemic racism may be good for your Lakewood but not mine.
Wherever he lands I hope that organization has a strong Director of Diversity and Inclusion.

Perhaps you have some examples of Dan's over the top behavior to keep Council White and Male?

Mr. O'Bryan, my post was three sentences long and you mischaracterized it twice. I never said "over the top behavior" and I never said "white and male". (But since you opened the door - 6 out of 7 members on Lakewood's all white Council are white males.)

In answer to your question.

Two city council elections.
Dan O'Malley endorsed exclusively white people.

Two appointments for city council seats - made by city council, of which Dan O'Malley is president.
Two white people appointed.

(for more details on this, see another conversation on The Deck under the heading 'Council President Dan O'Malley'.)

Dan O'Malley's insistence that Lakewood City Council remain an all white club is disgraceful. He had multiple opportunities to create change and inclusion. Instead he chose to back the all white status quo.

O'Malley and his support of systemic racism may be good for your Lakewood, but not mine.

Wherever Dan O'Malley lands, I hope that organization has a strong Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Mayor Bibb has nominated O'Malley for the Port Authority Board, and if confirmed he will have to resign from council.

Officially nominated earlier today, apparently, and mentioned in Committee of the Whole just now.
