Dear Lakewood Families:

When we developed our plan for the 2021-2022 school year as it relates to the pandemic, we did so with the data and information that was current at that time. On July 30, when our plan was communicated to all of you, our county was considered to have only moderate transmission of COVID-19, according to levels determined by the Centers for Disease Control. Since that time, cases in the county have increased to the level of substantial transmission and our case counts continue to rise. Of particular concern is the rise in cases among children that the delta variant spurred.

With that in mind, we are revising our mask policy for the district. Beginning tomorrow, August 10, ALL students and staff will be required to wear a mask indoors except for when eating or drinking. Student and staff safety has always been the District’s top priority. We believe that requiring masks at this point in time is the best way to ensure a safe start to the school year and to allow us to reach our goal of being ALL IN every day.

We are wearing masks to prevent the spread of illness at the beginning of the school year. Therefore if your child displays any symptoms of illness your child must remain at home until they are symptom-free.

We will reassess this policy half way through the first quarter. We encourage those who are unvaccinated and eligible to receive the vaccine to do so. This will help speed us along the road to normalcy.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing our students soon!
