After the brief flurry to open restaurants quickly again in Lakewood, restaurant owners saying no thanks, and close again.
Today Angelo's Pizza announced they are closing the dining room temporarily until the dangers of COVID-19 have calmed down.
Woodstock BBQ has closed again until August to adopt to the new business model of concentrating on to-go. While the restaurant reopened with major improvements, Robert Tagliotti was not ready for the complete switch customers gave him. It seemed that even with a safely spaced dining room, and outdoor seating customers preferred To-Go 5 to 1.
Simply put, residents do not believe it is worth a $110,000 bill or even death for a night out.
I know of at least 5 other places gearing up to close dining rooms while redoing kitchens and delivery plans.
HEY here is idea for City Council to keep Lakewood restaurants going. Hire 7 drivers to deliver food for FREE in Lakewood. This would save restaurants the 30% they pay to Uber. OR give them a benefit for improving their delivery services.
Early June I was watching a restaurateur in NYC talk about how to survive the pandemic. His advice based on his experience was to hire more good delivery drivers. Expand delivery by 10 minutes in all directions, and make sure everyone in the new delivery area has your menu and phone number. Make sure the good delivery people are friendly, clean, and always pushing the business and you never have to look back. Seemed to make sense to me.
Today it was revealed that nationally many medical leaders are looking at a second shut-down, stay tuned.
