No reason to panic...

I have no idea what is going on, but it would seem looking over the logs, and speaking with people in the know. Lakewood cases of COVID-19 are on the rise. In the last two days at least 3 people suspected with it were taken to the hospital to be put on ventilators.

The City, and I have asked, cannot disclose names or addresses because of HIPAA.

I only mention this for two reasons.

One if you think you have it or someone you know has it, go get tested. This is not worth waiting for.

Second reason, PLEASE keep practicing safe distancing and common sense.

The problem as I see it.... is that there is no way to know, who has IT, unless the individual is presenting the obvious symptoms.

How does one avoid the carriers, who are not exhibiting symptoms?
How does one know, who is or is not, a carrier?

We don't.

I live on Clifton Blvd at a busy intersection. I see many, many joggers/runners trying to share the sidewalk as they approach walkers, or run up behind them. They will head straight towards a family with a stroller, and make no attempt to give them room.

Hardly anyone is wearing a mask. Not even city workers.

Meanwhile, I (think I ) heard that it is now mandatory in New York and Pennsylvania, that EVERYONE has to wear a mask. We need that here.

I have to believe if we are safe all will be fine.

My point was not to panic, and the problem is we will never know who has it or not.

Wear masks, be smart, be safe.

I went 4 places this past weekend and none of them looked safe enough to enter.

Just not worth it.

I'd like to recommend Governor Cuomo's daily briefing as a complement to Governor DeWine's. DeWine seems to be falling in line with Trump like a good Republican and that is scary.

It time to start opening the economy. What other choice is there? If you keep the economy closed the crops don't get planted, the food does't get delivered, no one pays property taxes, no one pays the rent, no one pays the mortgage and the world descends into chaos.

If you want to keep only essential business open fine. Who determines what is essential?

What if the farmers don't want to risk their lives and plant the crops?
What if the truck driver doesn't want to risk his life and deliver the food?
What if the line worker doesn't want to go out and repair the power line?

Do you make them go to work?

What happens to social security when no one pays social security taxes?

What happens to your government pension when its investments becomes worthless?

What happens to local government when there are no income tax collections?

You can only print so much money.

It's time to accept the fact that a broken economy and the collapse of civil order will kill more people than the virus.

A lot of people in the chattering class liken the fight against the virus to war. In war people die. We don't get to choose what troubles confront us. We can choose how we respond. If you want to get mad about being forced to make an unpleasant choice get mad at the the Chinese Communist Party that deliberately spread the disease around the world.

The term was not leveling off.

I understand why the calls are down.

The only reason I even mentioned it was that all 3 people I spoke with said immediately, "Over all calls are down"

Odd thing, that was not the question I asked them.

City Hall, Police and Fire's hands are tied. They do not have conclusive findings only symptoms. When they are taken to the hospital the City is done. All reporting would come from the Hospital and the CDC. Because of HIPAA they can not even indicate areas of the city.

Everyday I hope for the best. While I prepare for the worst.

Which is why I posted this. If people get smart, stay in, practice safe distances and good hygiene, we come out of this better for it.

But I know humans, and their flaws.

After Covid calls and cases the next number to watch for is deaths. Morbid, yes, but when deaths become more of a focus than cases, we've turned a corner.

his summary was that "America's system works when everything is working". meaning our pace of life, the just in time inventory paradigm, the proportion of retail of our economy, etc. The analogy was not just of a ford mustang vs a volvo, but of a ford mustang crashing at 80 mph and a volvo crashing at a more reasonable speed. The Academic joke was non-political and about the lockdown. most academics spend most of their time hunkered down doing research anyways. regardless of their political or economic ideology. Unless they are doing field research.
