A neighbor and someone driving by called Lakewood Fire Department around 10:00 pm after seeing smoke and then flames in a house.
When the fire department rolled up flames could clearly be seen outside the house. The went immediately to Fireground.
While one group went to work on the flames, another group entered the second floor through a window on the roof.
House and fire were secured as of this posting. Westbound on Clifton could be closed for awhile longer.
Good work Lakewood Fire Department!

Here's where a basic fire story crosses the Covid 19 precautions.
This was one of our regular dog-walking times and routes when few people are usually out, but we suddenly encountered a large crowd of onlookers on the block across from the fire. They were friendly neighbors, but a little distracted, and social distancing was not closely observed. Some wanted to pet the dogs.
So a couple of things:
- Remember to practice social distancing even in situations like this.
- Although dogs can't internalize and convey Coronavirus, their fur is like any other surface. If touched or coughed on, it can carry the virus, although for a relatively short time. So social distancing is for dogs too.
