Lakewood Observer Rhetoric (LIAR)
Today I heard that some are offended by reading Sam, or the Mayor are liars.
The Lakewood Observer with the help of our members especially Brian Essi, Matt Markling, Mark Kindt and others jave produced reams and reams of documents that underline that the Mayor, Sam O'Leary, John Litten, Tom Bullock, Mary Louise Madigan, David Anderson and other council members from the past. KNEW they were spreading untrue statements for two plus years.
All of these statements, were meant to deceive the residents and voters of Lakewood, Ohio. All of the lies were to influence their elections and sway voters that the deal they had done in secret, could go ahead. NEARLY 100% of the releases from City Hall, O'Leary, and others about the Hospital deal were proven to not only be lies, BUT in many cases even their own lawyers and staff members warned them they were lying.
PLEASE SEE DESCRIPTIONS BELOW, no one wants to call an elected official a liar, they have to be pushed into it, and deliver the proof, as we have done everytime.

Re: Lakewood Observer Rhetoric (LIAR)
I Am An Eye-Witness
I attended the January 2015 press conference at city hall when the closing of the hospital was announced and listened to the speakers on the podium, including the mayor, describe $120,000,000 in new investment in Lakewood.
After several years of litigation, an email was produced by the city in which insiders involved described this number in their words, as "bogus".
The only reason that I have taken the time to write on the Deck for the past 3 years is because I grew tired of being lied to by local elected officials about matters of local government.
For anyone offended by what I write I am happy to sit down with them and walk them through the documents. (However, I'm not sure anyone has that much time.)
The LO and its staff, committed citizens, public interest lawyers, and others have spent thousand of hours reviewing the performance of the city administration. This is one of the truly great things about Lakewood.
Mr. O'Leary has a severe credibility problem that stems from his impossible testimony in December 2015 that city council hadn't been deliberating on the Master Agreement, when, of course, they had and were doing so in "executive sessions". That was the basis for the Skindell v. Madigan open meeting lawsuit.

Re: Lakewood Observer Rhetoric (LIAR)
While I thoroughly agree that "liar" it is an accurate term to describe much of what comes from the Developer wing of the Lakewood Democratic party, I would also agree with those who say it is overused here, especially in headlines. Just like people have been turned off by the saturation bombing of their mail boxes by the O'Leary campaign, I can also see how others may be turned off by the frequent use of "liar" here. I'm not arguing that it is wrong, but rather pointing out that casual readers may not go past the headline to find the truth of the accusation in the posting.

Oh was some little snowflake offended?
Well I AM OFFENDED by politicians who are self-serving, mealy mouthed cowards who say whatever they think will get them elected or keep them from losing their position.

While I respect Mr. Alaimo's opinion and his role as moderator, my guess is that the word "liar" is used rarely in the title line of Deck posts. He can verify that by using the search function.Dan Alaimo wrote:While I thoroughly agree that "liar" it is an accurate term to describe much of what comes from the Developer wing of the Lakewood Democratic party, I would also agree with those who say it is overused here, especially in headlines. The fundamental issue of honesty is one of the root causes of the current problems in Lakewood and has been for a number of years.
Candidate O'Leary has placed the issue of his honesty as one of the core issues in the race for mayor.
With:
1. I am a "prosecutor".
2. I will "freeze" taxes for seniors.
3. I have the "endorsement" of Lakewood Democrats.
4. I brought "$100,000,00" to Lakewood.
Need I go on?
Most of us are trying not to be rude to Mr. O'Leary, but the only other elected official that has as bigger a credibility problem is the mayor that Candidate O'Leary seeks to replace.
If Lakewood can't elect citizens with a clear commitment to ethics, openness, honesty, transparency, and accountability, then we will all watch as the bulldozers wreck the city while the citizens are mulcted for subsidies.
Finally, for those who are offended by what is posted on the Deck, this is an open forum and they are free to challenge the author of the "offending" text.
Yes, I am using "mulcted" in its most offensive sense.

To those complaining about the frequency of the use of these terms and calling for using them less, may I suggest the following:
1. Kindly direct the complaints to the “liars” and ask them to refrain from the “lies”. It follows that the less “lies” they tell, the less the Observers can observe and report on the lies being told.
2. To honor any request to not use such terms where factually warranted would be appeasement which would only serve to perpetuate the ongoing corruption.
3. Facts are Facts. They are not something to “get over”. Rather they are realities to come to terms with.
In this regard, I am unabashed in my role as a “hammer” —-being a “nail” under these circumstances would be condoning unacceptable behavior that has and will continue to hurt the underserved, the elderly and Lakewood residents generally.

Just to say: it's good that we reflect on our choice of words from time to time. We wouldn't some words to become like punctuation, such as "motherf**ker" in other circles.
And Sam O'Leary richly deserves the word "liar".

How's this?
Lakewood taxpayers are going to be increasingly mulcted, no matter who wins the election, because of poor fiscal choices by the Summers-O'Leary administration.

That is precisely why O’Leary’s Trump-like bluster that he will “freeze” taxes for seniors is so egregious.Dan Alaimo wrote:How's this?

Not only is he unable to do so, we will ALL be paying higher taxes, along with astronomical water bills.
Honestly, Lakewood will soon be unaffordable to all but the well-to-do.
Hmm. Maybe that was the plan all along.

I'm not sure I've ever read a truer post on this forum.
" Facts are Facts. They are not something to "get over". Rather they are realities to come to terms with."
I'll add - Apologists are Apologists. Sycophants are Sycophants. Liars are Liars.
And I want no part of that. I want no part of the politics of appeasement. I want no part of the politics of the past.
Sam O'Leary has misled all of us and has done so with a cynical disregard for the truth.
Sam O'Leary has trafficked in gutter politics and has done so repeatedly.
Sam O'Leary is betting that Lakewood can be bought. That outside money get's this done.
And I say bullshit to that and bullshit to him.
Get out and vote.
