More “high-end” condos! Gotta get the right kind of people in Lakewood!

The reason for constructing residential here is that the residential market in Lakewood is hot and inventory is low, meaning that high-end townhomes with quality finishes can easily command prices upwards of $300,000 and possibly up to $500,000. That's how much townhouses are selling for at McKinley Place on West Clifton, just north of Detroit.

The article you cited mentions that the Barry Buick lot, 1.2 acres, will sell for about $3,000,000 per acre.

At that price the Hospital site is worth about $14,250,000. Is anyone from Council willing to explain why the Hospital site is being donated to Carnegie Development? Well, sold for $1.


Is the Hospital site really that worthless?

All council members who voted in favor of doing so ought to have a credible answer for that question, certainly.

The sad part of the story and just how small minded our "civic leaders" are is proven by the fact that in January of 2013 John Gorman president of WOW Radio, and 35-year marketing director for WMMS, and I stopped by Mayor Summers office to lay out a plan to get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame involved with the Phantasy Site. While it had at best a 50-50 chance besides John and myself we had the backing of the Phantasy and other movers and shakers that had helped to bring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to Cleveland. It would have had the potential to bring a hotel to the site as well.

The idea was simple and played off some real issues that were happening at the Rock Hall, and things they were looking to address at the time, and to this day. A spin-off site for Cleveland Rock, based on a historic location, with an active live historic club. RRHOF had just spun off their effort and library at CWRU Metro Campus as the first off site venture. New York, Seattle, San Francisco, London, Hamburg were looking for a way to get involved with clubs, and RRHOF was looking for a way to compete with the Hard Rock Cafe, Bill Graham's Family, and Steve Wozniak from Apple Computer all who were in the market buying up rock memorabilia. For the most part all Mayor Summers had to do was walk through the Phantasy, and declare in some form that "Punk Music" was born here. Something the RRHOF agrees with. While many places can take ownership of bands, songs even names only a few places in the world can take ownership of being the start of a complete genre' of music.

Mayor Summers said at the above meeting I'll meet you there. He never showed, and never took another meeting. Without the support of City Hall all efforts fell short.
