Metro Had Strongest Year Ever

Remember when Jennifer Pae claimed the city ignored Metro’s offer to take over the hospital because she insisted they were in no financial condition to do so?

Oops! Guess she was wrong.

In the midst of a massive campus transformation, the MetroHealth System recorded one of its strongest financial years on the books, driven by the integration of former HealthSpan sites and an expansion into new communities.

The county hospital system saw its operating income skyrocket 381 percent from the previous year to $42 million in 2017, while its revenue increased 8 percent to nearly $1.1 billion, according to unaudited financial results. The preliminary figures showed expenses increased 5 percent.
Why would anyone trust any of these city administration people? A litany of lies!

These are almost the exact words that I recently heard from one of our recently re-elected council members.

Ms.Conant, I read this over the weekend and the very first thing that came to mind was ...
Jen Pae , Lakewood Hypocrat.

Bridget,

Lakewood has a democracy problem. Half the population opposed the closure of Lakewood hospital yet the “democrats” on city council voted (7-0) to close an institution that has been in the community for over 100 years.

I urge everyone to read this article from May of 2017. Very relevant to health care in Northeast Ohio:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/06/busi ... ngine.html

“From Akron to Youngstown and Canton to Cleveland, as in cities and towns across the country, workers who once walked out of factories at the end of each shift now stream out of hospitals.

While manufacturing employment has fallen nearly 40 percent in northeastern Ohio since 2000, the number of health care jobs in the region has jumped more than 30 percent over the same period. In Akron, the onetime rubber capital of the world, only one of the city’s 10 largest employers still makes tires. Three are hospitals.

“People who used to make deliveries to factories are now making them to hospitals,” said Samuel D. DeShazior, Akron’s deputy mayor for economic development.”

Ironically, the “democrats” on city council could have reviewed reports from the Department of Labor on the future of healthcare employment. Some people argue that residents should “get over it”, I say dig in and demand your council members ask for a third party investigation.

Mr. Edah,

Perhaps you missed it.

Lakewood is doing "Democracy", "Healthcare" and "Charity" in new and exciting ways to take advantage of the little guy---our leaders have a "strategic vision" and "knowledge" that is the "future of healthcare".

"The strategic vision of healthcare for the Lakewood community is based on the knowledge healthcare is changing from facility- and physician-based paradigm, designed to care for the sick, to a population based effort that aims to improve the health of an entire community by helping people live healthier lives treating their health conditions early to prevent chronic diseases, and reducing the need for "sick care" in hospitals. This is the future of healthcare."

The "strategic vision" has resulted in payoffs totaling $100M of dollar of previously charitable cash and land as well as free medical office space in our high school for all who embrace and support this "knowledge."

No worries--the sick and poor of Lakewood just need to "buck up" and get with the "vision."

There are plenty of pastry shops in Lakewood for "those people" to get their "cake".

Pae has a fiduciary responsibility to Lakewood Ohio, yet she writes as though she's an agent of the Cleveland Clinic.
