THREE ARCHES FOUNDATION CONTINUES

PHILANTHROPIC LEGACY OF FORMER LAKEWOOD HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

Foundation renamed and repurposed with new care of health mission

CLEVELAND, January 17, 2018: Three Arches Foundation, formerly known as the Lakewood Hospital Foundation, has officially completed its transition from a hospital-focused development organization to a community-focused grant-making foundation that continues its long-standing legacy of philanthropic impact. Approval of this change was granted in mid-December 2017 following an extensive due-diligence and regulatory process.

Three Arches Foundation will fulfill its broader health-focused mission by investing in philanthropic initiatives that provide programs and services focused on improving the health and well-being of citizens of Lakewood and surrounding communities, and by working collaboratively to further assess key unmet needs. Priorities for the next several years are directly aligned with the Foundation’s vision across two strategic areas of focus – Access to Care and Behavioral Health allowing for focused concentration and greater impact on these important areas.

W. Charles (Chas) Geiger III was elected by the newly-formed Three Arches Foundation Board of Directors to continue in his role as board chair. A lifelong resident of Lakewood, Geiger is actively involved in a number of Lakewood organizations and recognized for his civic leadership and community contributions. Geiger will lead a nineteen member board of directors focused on enhancing and supporting care of health.

“Our volunteer board consists of highly qualified community leaders whose collective insight and leadership will guide the Foundation’s continued evolution with the resources entrusted to its care,” Geiger commented. “Their tremendous experience will be an integral part of the Foundation’s ability to better understand the needs and gaps affecting community health and well-being.”

Kristin G. Broadbent will serve as president and CEO of Three Arches Foundation. Over the past 25 years, Broadbent was responsible for directing the overall operation and strategic direction of the former Lakewood Hospital Foundation and was instrumental in managing the transition project.

“It’s with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I continue my work with Three Arches Foundation in this new capacity. I look forward to collaborating within the community to help connect people, ideas and resources as we broaden our mission for greater impact,” Broadbent said.

The Three Arches Foundation name pays homage to its long-standing roots and embodies the historical significance with the three arched doors that were once the entrance into Lakewood Hospital’s healing community, and is further complemented with a new logo symbolizing unity as the arches architecturally convert to a single strength with reflective light guiding the way.

The stated parameters allow this "foundation" to take the remaining assets which were Lakewood produced over decades and disperse them to any regional area for any specious purpose. It's the last and final dispersal of these assets.

About 25% of the money raised by LHF came from outside of Lakewood, but 100% of it was for the running of Lakewood Hospital and events, even the restricted funds.

I also found it odd that it touts its 19 member board, but list their names nowhere on the website.

The Cleveland Clinic has stated that the assets of the Lakewood Hospital Foundation are reported as assets of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Have the assets of the newly named Foundation been transferred out of the CCF?

By now the assets of the new Foundation should be about $40 million. Last year the City of Lakewood had a beneficial interest in that $40 million.

Does that beneficial interest still exist?

What did the City receive for its beneficial interest?

What is a neighboring community?

Sean Juris told me that neighboring community meant Northeast Ohio.

Is that the case?

If the assets of the old LHF are to be distributed to Westlake will Westlake be distributing some of its assets to Lakewood?

Some clarification needed: is this the same as the health and wellness foundation discussed here previously? Thanks.

I can't say I expect much good to come out of LHA.

No this was LHA, the other group is or was going to be a new group, still controlled by a handful of the Mayor's people.

BUT!

These 3 arches people are already making overtures to get the other group's money.

It is all so inbred, a small handful of people.

Three Arches is the former Lakewood Hospital Foundation.

Three Arches is NOT the foundation being developed by the Foundation Planning Task Force.

There have NOT been overtures for them to take over the money the Foundation Planning Task Force is responsible for developing a 501c3 organization out of.

Given the confusion about the evolution of Lakewood Hospital Foundation and the development under the Master Agreement for the "New Foundation" by the citizen Foundation Planning Task Force (FPTF), I encourage the FPTF to consider issuing an interim report that describes current work to date, future task agenda and tentative recommendations (if any).

I believe that as of today, the FPTF has completed its first year of activity.

An interim report could be as clean and simple as a 7-page slide deck.

While this announcement by the Foundation formerly known as LHF is opaque and obtuse, it is no surprise.

LHF's pivot and press release is the direct and proximate result of years of cascading failed leadership:

1. Failed fake leadership at the City level--Summers, Fitzgerald, Bullock, O'Leary et al. they never understood LHF's obligations to Lakewood and cut LHF free on December 21, 2015.

2. Failed fake leadership at the LHA board level---Self-serving phonies Bill Gorton and Tom Gable, as well as LHF's own Ken Haber, Summers, and a host of other fakes who cowered and bowed to CCF at the expense the most vulnerable residents among us--and the greater Lakewood community.

3. Failed and fake leadership at the LHF board level---Ken Haber, Jay Foran, Mary Ann Crampton and Wendy Summers are just a few who either never really understood their true mission and/or decided to retain status and control of money over helping Lakewood keep a hospital for Lakewood. It is no wonder the names of board members are buried many clicks down in the website---they ought to all be ashamed of their roles in this caper. When Ken Haber, Wendy Summers, Jay Foran et al learned that there was a potential of Lakewood Hospital closing due to alleged deficiencies in "bricks and mortar" and Sam O'Leary's alleged need for $5M for a new parking lot, these feckless board members had an obligation to spend every last penny of LHF money to keep the hospital's mission alive---interaction with Metro, Surgical Development. They did exactly the opposite---they cowered for control of the money and fake status.

Once this Trifecta of failures occurred, LHF's course was cut---the only choice left for it is to follow the money that wants to support "a hospital" ---and that means a CCF hospital.

When the 2018 awards are published, the Three Arches press release will likely make the top five list of "Lakewood Fake News Awards."

They all failed---They are all failures when it comes to the health and wellness of Lakewood.

No change in mission and fake press release can change these facts.
