Cleveland Clinic Protects Rapist Doctor

The Cleveland Clinic, the self-aggrandizing institution that supposedly cares about your health (), knew one of its physicians was raping patients. Not only did they drag their feet in investigating the charges, they KEPT HIM ON STAFF, and ultimately settled a lawsuit with a strict confidentiality agreement that kept this information from being reported. The doctor was able to easily obtain another job at Ohio State’s medical center. To Ohio State’s credit, when informed of this information, they quickly suspended him.

This type of behavior is common at the Clinic because they are more concerned with their image than the welfare of their patients. Even a former Clinic attorney acknowledges this.

Read the article and gag.
Plaintiff lawyer Michael Shroge, a former Cleveland Clinic associate general counsel, says major health care systems are "very often more interested in protecting their brand than protecting the health of patients."

As many of you know, I am one jaded, cynical SOB.
CCF's actions here shocked even me.

Not me.

I’ve known of previous cases where doctors have been accused of assault, abuse, and various other illegalities and the Clinic looks the other way.

This is a difficult article to read, but the most remarkable line seems to be: "We take any allegation very seriously and act in a swift manner to address them."

The whole news here is that Cleveland Clinic made an abject, conscious choice not to to do that. (Whereas "another hospital… placed [Williams] on leave after learning of the complaints against him.")

Yet their spokesperson, presumably knowing all this, responded with a comment that doesn't even deny reality so much as refuse to acknowledge it at all.

That kind of practice should be very worrying. One employee of a large organization committing crimes is awful, but doesn't necessarily mean the whole organization is dangerous.

The organization's official spokesperson resorting to gaslighting, however, is a whole other matter.

He was seeing patients in Lakewood around that time.
