Mayor Needs Muzzle

Mayor Summers is insisting the proposed dog legislation is both needed and in line with other cities.
He sent an email to council addressing the muzzle requirement along with a picture illustrating a typical muzzle.

This is NOT a muzzle, it is a “Gentle Leader” or Haltee collar for dog walking. It Trains a dog not to pull while being walked.

If the mayor doesn’t even know what a muzzle or training halter are, do we trust anything he’s been saying about dogs and the law?
It’s time he started listening to professionals. Just like in the hospital debacle, he pushes his agenda with no regard for facts, no taking the advice of professionals, or seemingly any consultation with experts.
It’s embarrassing. We have our own version of Trump right here in Lakewood.

It’s even on the city website. How embarrassing!

Who runs the city website?
Who is the “Communications” person?

THANK YOU Bridget!!! For grabbing that screen shot, pointing out the error and absurdity and posting it on the Deck. There is no end to the ineptitude exhibited by an administration hellbent on doing what they want- right or wrong.

My first involvement of any kind in Lakewood was the Leashed Dogs in the parks initiative. It took a year-and-a-half and Summers and Madigan were the staunchest opponents.

I think it's possible that something else is in play... Optics.
That there was no mistake made. That they pulled their image because they got caught.
They got caught trying to put a gentler image on the face of their canine racism.

Who can identify the breed of the dog in the photo?
Here’s a better question: how did you determine what the breed was?

Mayor Summers keeps stepping in dog doo every time he opens his mouth.
Again, he resembles Trump. Just when you think he can’t be any more ridiculous, he is!

It was a cynical, weaselly ploy -- typical.
Notice all the headlines picking up from the press release that the city wants to end the pit bull ban, when in reality they are making it all but impossible for people to own one, and at the same time, extending the non-ban to other breeds.

Small, vindictive, hateful, all spring to mind when I think of the Summers Administration.
The brand he is creating for Lakewood.
Where is the love, the respect, the transparency, the honesty?

It’s OK. No one is buying it.
There is a huge backlash on social media and he knows it.
The disingenuous announcement that the pit bull ban is over merely enraged people with its bald faced lie.
Again, it’s like Trump. Say some outrageous, untrue thing you are going to do and arrogantly assume people are stupid enough to believe you.
It’s the Summers Administration way - treat people like idiots and do as you please because you think you can get away with it.
That’s about to come to an end. While I wish the hospital giveaway would have been the catalyst, I’ll begrudgingly accept that a lowly dog will be his downfall.
You know, those fluffy little things he likes to pose with.

Team Summers crew is out on social media arguing that the halter pictured on the city website and used as an example of an acceptable muzzle is actually a type of muzzle because it’s a device put on a dogs mouth.
Well actually, no. It’s a device placed on a dogs nose to train them to walk without pulling. It does not encircle the mouth and teeth nor can it prevent the dog from biting a human or another dog. It wasn’t designed to do that. IT IS NOT A MUZZLE.
If that’s the best you can do to defend your indefensible position then all we can do is laugh.
But hey, as many have pointed out, let’s go along with the city and pretend it’s a muzzle - then we can all “muzzle” our dogs and pretend there will be no dog bites.
Summers insists the legislation is for public safety. A halter cannot and will not prevent a dog bite so go ahead and create your false sense of security. It’s right in line with all your other falsehoods

I just fixed the top headline on this topic, but not on all the posts. (I hope Bridget didn't intend it to read "Muzzled".)

Love this quote from Summers on the BSL legislation.
No ordinance of this complexity and this emotional dimension is going to right the first time out the gate," he said.
It’s his go-to method of diminishing anyone who disagrees with him. Calls them “emotional.” Just like he called those opposed to the hospital giveaway emotional.
I wonder if he will be “emotional” when he loses.
