It Now Seems Every Election Cycle...

... since the beginning of the hospital debacle, in the days leading up to the election we get a bunch of people that outwardly show their hatred for not just the Deck, but the Observer, and anyone and everyone posting on the Deck. Names that never appear in off election years, jump in, and jump on often with their own form of vitriol aimed not at public officials for the jobs they do, but residents for simply speaking their minds about the job government is doing or not doing.

It was just an election ago, when a new user that had registered and was sitting in the weeds came on, with a first post talking how they loved the Observer, and then it turned into pure hatred. Attacking everyone and anyone, while also going after public officials in the ugliest of ways, doing things that no normal member of this project every would. A man using the name of a special needs person, that did not even own a computer went after first me, saying if I lost a SLAPP lawsuit, should step down, and when the case was promptly thrown out of court, went after Dru Siley and his dead wife, which allowed other Deck haters to point it out on every form of social media that existed, pointing out how evil the Deck is, so vote against anything and everything the Deck is for(1). This culminated in the faux person posting the results of the election 4 hours before they became public. If you remember, the results were held up because of problems at the BOE, but this person using a fake name, went hog wild, gloating on the win. When he was found to be fake, detractors again went after everyone on the Deck for allowing this person to post. Ironically the same group that quoted him leading up to him being banned. I believe yet another group trying to destroy this project.

Which brings me to another interesting sidenote. They say the Observer says, thinks, and has hidden agendas... All Bullshit. There is no editorial board or group that meets and discusses anything, what alone an agenda. One of the great things about this project is we do not collude with each other, nor do we often agree on anything. Hence, we never tell people as "The Observer" what to say or do. Where I might say what I Jim O'Bryan thinks, I have never in 14 years allowed the Observer to tell people what to think. But people love to project their own self into everything, in fact it is hard for most to separate themselves from both what they do, and/or what they would do if they ran this project.

Look back at the now infamous Lawsuit, being used in Legal classes and lectures around the state, and country, against the Observer for speaking both opinion, and facts that didn't suit a small group of people set on bringing this project down. My lawyers and I were tipped off to the lawsuit nearly 7 months before it was filed, by the plaintiff bragging to Lakewood Police and others that "they were filing one to bring us down." Still we continued on, while Observing principles in the suit and their supporters trying desperately to pain this as "group think" an "agenda" and filled with hate. In the end, they were shown to be the haters they are, and were exposed to be completely without facts or merit. They then went nuts when I decided no to publish, or attack them, which would of served no purpose except to give them yet another bite at the apple.

Dan O'Malley, David Anderson, Chief Gilman, and others often come on the Deck to post and engage. But a small handful stay away from a place that has always stood for honest open discussion between real people ie voters, and themselves people we voted for and/or work for us. Instead they go to venues, that control conversations, or are so small in stature and views, they worry not about people seeing it. Even more troubling, they prefer places where they can say some stuff down right evil, and come back 24 hours later and delete it, as if it was never said.

This time around, let's try to move the city back to where it was before this administration, this council, and the hospital nightmare was started.

Let's move it back to a place none of us need to be afraid of retaliation for what we think, or our views on how government is doing.

Let's make Lakewood the highly educated, open, free, fun loving community it was just 7 short years ago.

As an user who's been signed up for some time, I would say the part above is standard for most the regular observers as well (in one form or another)

Thanks for the editorial.

Thanks for stopping in, and sharing your thoughts.

While I certainly agree, the vitriol has ratcheted up here, I would say much of it comes from a growing frustration, that seems to permeate across Social Media.

I am always looking for ways to curb it, and keep discussions inline.

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks again for stopping by.
