"Land and Money Grab": Why Gaslighters Bullock & Summers Accused Metro & Others of What They Themselves Did

As other posts on the Deck wrangle with Summers' and Bullock's motives for doing what they did, it is important to remind folks that Bullock and Summers both accused Metro of attempting a "Land and Money Grab." That was never Metro's offer.
However, it is now clear that Bullock and Summers combined with Fitzgerald et al and pulled off the largest Land and Money grab in Lakewood's history.
Recall that David Anderson said "This stopped being about healthcare a long time ago"--even CCF Trustee Bill Gorton--admitted that CCF deal was not about Lakewood's healthcare--CCF has no "passion" for it.
Bullock and Summers accused Metro's Board of being weak--Summers and Bullock led the fake and feeble LHA Board--a complete bust and failure--they claimed LHA was on the verge of bankruptcy---the Board they led no longer exists.
So it was textbook Gaslighting when they accused Metro (and those supporting Metro's proposal) of something they never did or attempted to do.

Bullock and Summers used textbook Gaslighter tactics:
Blatantly lying--about the Metro offer and nearly everything else.
Splitting — pitting Lakewood residents and friends against friends and neighbors.
Working to align others against you--created Build Lakewood with Jay Carson et al to divide and calling other "nasty"
Telling others that they were crazy, unstable, or manipulative--- "Tinfoil Hats"
Lying about things they said and did---well documented
Telling you they don’t like your family and friends — but for vague reasons. Many residents report that they have been excluded from Summers' and Bullock's social and political circles

The gas lighting, the dividing into camps…this is what at times bothers me more than losing our largest employer. If the hospital were in fact in trouble and there was no other party willing to take it on, we as a community could cope with that. We lost tax revenue when Lake Erie Screw closed. That was out of the control of city officials. However, not since the run up to the invasion of Iraq have I felt so strongly about an issue, that something does not smell right, that something does not make any sense, and that the case being made is built on lies.
The Summers, Bullock, Build crowd poisoned all discussions. I would see reasonable discussions around 64 on social media and invariably someone would butt in and say, “you have to be on the RIGHT side” and would threaten people who may want to study the issue that they would be socially ostracized if they dare stray too far. They banned the Observer, marginalized the deck, and then Jen Pae started a city administered Facebook page that shut down any discussion and further divided the city.
I chose Lakewood as my home 35 years ago and I hate what they have done to our community.

My name first appeared on the Deck on April 14, 2015 in a post by JOB who I had never met until later that month:

On of the first post in response was:

Rock on, Mr. Essi!
Bullock and Summers began to marginalize me even before JOB made the post.
I lived on Jackson in 1959 when I was born and have lived in Lakewood for all but 7 years since then, but I never knew that such evil existed in this otherwise pleasant city until 2015.

We are talking generational differences here. And as Brian Essi has put his stake in the ground I would ask --"Mike Summers---where did you get bent?" What about the last 50 years have you not understood? Stan Austin

I don't think I've ever agreed with a post more strongly (sorry Jim, Brian and Mark). It's not about buildings its about people living in an urban community, and our "leaders" have absolutely lost sight of that. We need to elect a new, younger slate of council members. I don't know what they'll do - maybe they'll be co-opted like the others - but we have to take a chance on them. Give our city its soul back.

I entirely agree!

Agreed.
If you fought to save Lakewood Hospital,
If you're "With Charlie",
If you believe in Truth and Transparency in government,
The choice is clear.
The choice is:
Tristan Rader, Meghan George, Brian Taubman..

Wear it as a badge of honor, Brian. Most of us do.
And please keep your foot on the accelerator pedal.
