Cuyahoga County Young Democrats "Party" - HARDLY

The old-timers of Lakewood politics court young voters but keep young residents and candidates out.
I was out walking yesterday, as a Lakewoodite I have come to know was walking out of Booth's Midtown Tavern, a place that has always been a waterhole and get-a-way for this Lakewoodite from the moment he arrived in Lakewood. As he seemed agitated, I asked what was wrong. He mentioned that he had just been asked to leave the Cuyahoga County Young Democrats Cocktail Party which was being held in order for young people to meet elected officials and support the Democrats. I asked why, He was obviously under the age of 35, a limit that seemed illegal to put on a group of people meeting elected officials at a Cuyahoga County Young Democrats' party. But such is today in Lakewood: a bunch of Lakewood's older politicians, courting youth, did not want the wrong kind of Lakewood youth there, so kick them out.
"Yeah I was sitting at the bar, minding my own business, when two people from the Democratic Club noticed me, and asked me to leave! I wasn't even in the back room where the Cocktail party for elected officials was being held." He laughed and mentioned all of them throwing the party were much older than the age limit they set, and they asked him to leave! He was incredulous, and rightfully so. He was minding his own business and they asked a legal, young democrat to leave the entire establishment.
Well, Lakewood is the city that has become known for telling its residents what they can't do instead of helping them do what they can. Brian Taubman, age 34, running for Council-at-Large this election was wearing a Cleveland Indians Jersey, with a light shirt over it and blue jeans. He was wearing nothing that indicated he was a candidate, he was not handing out brochures, was not speaking with those coming or going, and it is really doubtful that he would have attended the party. Though he is a member of the Cuyahoga County Democrat Committee, and is a young Lakewood Democrat, and out of those throwing the party, the youngest, and probably has been a democrat the longest. But Lakewood, where elected officials loathe residents, and especially ones who dare to question them, had sent out the bouncers to clear Brian out of the bar.
Then one noticed a Brian Taubman sign for council in the window, and asked Brian, and then the bartender to remove it. Both refused, as the sign had been in the window for over a week, after the bar owner, a long time friend of Brian's, asked for one. The Democrat bouncer explained, "Well, had we seen that we never would have booked a party here!" and walked away in a huff. A couple near Brian, asked him what this was all about, he told them, and they let him know that all of the incumbents had lost their votes this year, as that was an ugly and disgusting display of anti-democratic behavior.
But let's be honest, that is Lakewood, Ohio they were peddling at their "Cuyahoga County Young Democrats Cocktail Party." 100% control of everything, right down to who is allowed and who is not allowed in bars, restaurants, clubs, meetings, whatever.
Lakewood under the FitzGerald/Summers regime has turned into a place divided on any and every topic. They create wars and animosity amongst residents like nothing I have ever witnessed before. They bully and intimidate residents to the point that they now fear speaking their minds, or even sharing or questioning ideas. It has become a fascist state run by elected officials who not only distrust the people voting for them, but actually loathe them.
Earlier, Cindy Max tore into Jennifer Scott for fighting to save the family pet, the City of Lakewood had assured her she could keep. Today, poor Charlie the dog has to move, or be put down. Welcome to Lakewood. Find a great corner bar, develop a friendship with the owner, and have the thugs from the Democratic Club throw you out, and demand the owner stop using his first amendment rights. Welcome to Lakewood. Speak out against City Hall, and you get stalked, harassed and eventually you are found to be running afoul of something that costs you money. Welcome to Lakewood.
The more I looked into this, talking to others that were there at the bar and looking at the 50/60 year olds courting young votes, by buying them drinks and telling them lies, the more it became evident. It's time for OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW.
I give Brian Taubman credit, I would have called the police, and demanded entry. Instead, he quietly packed up his computer, left the place, and promised himself that if he gets elected, no more closed meetings, no more walls, no more hiding documents, and no more spreading hate that has permeated this city since City Hall became the pain in the ass to residents that it has become.
Lakewood one of the most open communities in Northern Ohio, is quickly becoming a fascist state.
Stay tuned.
