Mayor's Response to BSL

Post by Greg Murray »

I couldn't let his letter on 9/22 go unanswered. This ordinance is an embarrassment to the City of Lakewood.

His response is typical political pandering.

He will repeatedly focus on the word SAFETY to try to convince people that he is concerned about citizens' safety.

If he was really concerned about the safety if Lakewood citizens, he would have made far different choices during his term as mayor. We aren't ANY safer from crime, have any better city services, and have fewer health care choices today than when he took office. Add to that the staggering increase in the heroin problem and I'd say his concern for public safety is nothing more than crocodile tears.

Safety v equity is such a strange, false dichotomy as they are not on the same spectrum. Though it makes me wonder what our mayor's point of view may be. Safety v Equity. Does that mean one can racially profile in the name of safety? Where is the line drawn?

Given recent behavior I observed on the city's Lakewood Community Facebook page, there is a profound defensive posture around full basketball courts and BSL. Jenn Pae is in overdrive, shutting down all but her comment on a question regarding full courts. And I briefly saw a post by Greg that was disappeared immediately.

It appears the city's defense regarding Charlie will be around "home rule". Home rule to discriminate? Great optics. Can the powers that be just GO AWAY.

Is Mike Summers Lakewood'd version of Donald Trump---a person and philosophy displaced by 50 years?

Stan - In many ways, yes. Thought I seriously doubt Hizzoner lusts after his own daughters.

I continue to encourage Lakewood citizen to file written complaints with the ACLU of Ohio related to the way in which the city uses social media.

That Lakewood Community facebook page pissed me off so bad I had to leave it. If it's run by Jenn Pae it has to be considered city hall. They try to pretend they are just private citizens trying to share community events.
