Voting Irregularities in Lakewood Spark Concern

Over the course of the past several months, a group of Lakewoodites have been conducting research regarding voting trends in Lakewood. Specifically, voting trends in the 2015 and 2016 Lakewood local elections were analyzed. During the course of this research, numerous irregularities were discovered. Some of these irregularities include persons voting from addresses that are not theirs, addresses that do not exist, and persons voting from vacant lots, just to name a few types of irregularities noticed.
Below are some specific examples of the irregularities noticed:
- One individual is registered to vote and has, according to public records, voted from the 2nd floor of a commercial building on Madison Avenue on Lakewood's eastern end. This commercial building does not have a second floor. Rather, this building has only one floor and two units. One unit is a business and the other is vacant. In other words, this individual is supposedly living in and voting from the second story of a single-story building. Attempts to reach the individual supposedly living at this location and voting from this location were unsuccessful. All known telephone numbers for this individual have been disconnected. Furthermore, this building is listed zoned 100% commercial, and is not mixed-use or residential for individuals to live in.
- At least three individuals were registered to vote and did vote from the Rockport Square Townhomes on Lakewood's East End before said Townhomes were even constructed.
- One individual voted from the address of one of my friends in Lakewood's Ward 2. My friend did not know this person and confirmed that they never lived at their residence. In other words, this person apparently voted from an address that was not theirs and was never theirs.
- One individual is registered to vote and has voted from a commercial office suite in Downtown Lakewood. First, this building is zoned commercial, and is not zoned for mixed or residential use. Attempts to reach this person, both at the office suite in question and by telephone were unsuccessful. Multiple tenants in the building reported that this person never rented an office suite at this location.
- One individual is registered to vote and has voted from an address between the Lakewood Center North and Lakewood Center West. Anyone that has lived in Lakewood for long would know that no addresses exist between Center North and Center West. Therefore, this appears to be another case of a supposed person supposedly voting from an address that is not theirs.
- One Lakewood resident that is suspected to have been deceased for many years has been voting. Several individuals, including some close to the allegedly deceased voter in question, confirmed his passing. Let it be noted that this allegedly deceased individual has been voting in every election since the time he allegedly passed.
- One Lakewood resident is registered to vote from an address on Detroit between Lakewood Baptist Church and Plantation Home. Again, anyone that has lived in Lakewood for any time knows that there are no addresses on Detroit between the church and Plantation Home.
- One individual is registered to vote from an apartment behind a bar on Madison Avenue. Records show that this person does not and never did live at this address.
- One individual is registered to vote from an address on Madison between Fedor Manor and Miscencik Funeral Home. Again, anyone that knows Lakewood would realize that there is only a parking lot between Fedor Manor and the funeral home.
- Several persons are registered to vote at addresses supposedly between AutoZone and Uptown Mart. There are no houses, dwellings, or structures to live in between AutoZone and Uptown Mart.
- One individual is registered to vote and has voted from a vacant lot in Lakewood's Ward 2. There has not been a home or structure on this lot for roughly 5 years.
- Roughly six persons are registered to vote from various vacant lots in Lakewood's Ward 4, when there have not been homes on these lots in several years.
This is only a handful of several irregularities that have been noted during this investigation, and it is highly probable to there are more that have yet to be discovered from the 2015 and 2016 Lakewood elections. While electoral fraud rarely affects election outcomes, especially in larger elections, this irregularities do call into question that integrity of Lakewood's voter rolls maintained by the Board of Elections. When the integrity of voter rolls are called into question, the integrity of elections are as well.
At this point, the evidence has been turned over to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine for further review and investigation.
As a side note, any selling of the hospital property or building on the site should cease until the investigation is complete.
