TICKS - BEWARE

Been running around like crazy, and one of the topics that has come up more and more is a "tick problem."
As weather warms up, fleas and ticks appear, but it would seem that wood ticks are around in larger quantities and ending up on more pets and people.

But also the Deer Tick. seen on the right with a red body, which carries Lyme disease. Deer ticks have been spotted by more than a few in Lakewood.
The first thing to try with a tick bit is soak a cotton ball in dish washing soap. Apply to the entire tick, and hold it in place for at least 30 seconds or a minute. Most wood ticks will release.
If that does not work, apply alcohol, and grab the tick as far up the body as possible, and slowly with it out. Check to make sure you have the head.
If the head remains, gently remove it with a needle, or sharp knife.
If the head remains, or you feel it is a deer tick and has been on you for awhile, see a doctor.
Carry on.
