The latest issue marks the 12th anniversary of the print Observer, which premiered on June 28, 2005.

The paper's launch, which happened as print media was already in deep decline, was met with widespread skepticism at the time. Most thought it wouldn't last more than a year. The amount of volunteer hours needed to produce each issue was so overwhelming that it seemed an unsustainable project.

Remarkably, it has kept going. As original contributors gradually moved on, new folks have stepped up to keep the paper going. They've brought fresh perspectives and material to the table, helping the Observer Project to be as relevant as ever.

Despite intense efforts in recent years to silence the project, it has persevered thanks to the blood, sweat, and tears of folks like Jim and Deb Obryan. I want to thank them and all the contributors of the past 12 years (far, far, too many for me to even try to list here) for making it happen....it truly is an amazing accomplishment.
