As I initiate my campaign for Lakewood City Council at Large, I am pleased and honored to have the support and formal endorsement of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 25 representing approximately 100 Lakewood Police officers.
Lakewood faces many challenges including economic development, city finances, diversity, city services and maintaining and enhancing our quality of life. However, as I lifelong resident and homeowner I know that none of the issues facing Lakewood is more important to Lakewood residents than safety. In communities where safety is an issue, quality of life is diminished, housing values drop and residents flee. That's why having the support of the men and women who patrol Lakewood's streets and the trust and confidence they have placed in me is so important.
For those of you who don't know me, I have been a Lakewood resident all my life, (except for my college years at Ohio State), having attended St. Luke and Lakewood High. I am a homeowner on Wyandotte Avenue and am currently employed as an Account Executive at a large Cleveland based company.
During the upcoming campaign season, I look forward to rekindling old friendships and making new Lakewood friends. Your comments, thoughts, ideas and suggestions are important to me. Check out my Facebook page or website for updates and to make your comments known.
Lastly I would invite you to attend my City Council fundraising event to be held Thursday June 22nd from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Vosh, 1414 Riverside. Suggested contributions range from $30 to $100. Meet community leaders, supporters, friends and me. I look forward to seeing many of you. Everyone is welcome.

Does the Fraternal Order of Police, representing Lakewood Police Officers, support and agree with its Cleveland counterpart which elected Steve Loomis its President and endorsed Trump for President?

I see no mention of a commitment to honest, transparent government. You'd have to be living on another planet not to know that this issue, as it pertains to the Summers' administration, has split Lakewood to it's core.
I would ask Ms. George where she stands on transparency. Specifically I would ask her where she stands on Lakewood's Law Director and public records keeper, Kevin Butler, still withholding public records despite a court order.

Meghan can speak for herself. I have faith in her based on conversations we have had. I believe she will be a fine at-large council member. She knows what we're about and will still sit next to us at the Dem. Club.
Seriously, she's a serious young woman who is Lakewood Strong. I didn't ask her about Butler in particular, but she is well aware of what's going on and has wondered aloud, how this stuff could happen without a single public hearing (prior to the deal being done).

dl meckes,
I stand by my observation and I stand by the question I asked.
Being "aware of what's going on and wondering aloud" but not publicly taking a stand isn't cutting it for me.
That's Dan O'Malley Land.

I've never seen her speak out on ANY issue.....which is pretty dumbfounding given all the unprecedented corruption of the past couple years.
"Vote for her now, trust her later" isn't going to cut it. It looks to me like she's trying to skate by using the family name.
If she is able to get elected based on nothing more than a name, then Lakewood deserves the mess that it's in.

At the moment I am feeling anti-incumbent. What can I say?

I agree. I cannot imagine ever voting for any of the people who participated in this.

I''d like to know the answer to Stan Austin's question.

I need to hear candidates take affirmative positions about transparency, the documents, hiring practices, and many of the other issues we deal with on a regular basis here. The only one who has so far is Tristan Rader. If necessary, I will withhold my vote, or write someone in, for the other slots.

As Mr. Ossoff learned Tuesday (and many other milquetoast Dems have learned in the last year), simply being "anti-" something isn't enough.
I supported her Dad for many years, and would like to buy into Meghan....but she needs to show proof that she's willing to change the corrupt culture of this city hall.
I need to see some substance.
Meghan is a nice kid, but if she wants to be taken seriously she had better start taking some actual positions.
For example:
*As mentioned, what is her position on Butlers refusal to release records?
*What exactly was her position on the hospital matter? She ran for office in 2016, yet I never heard any definitive statements. I know she wasn't part of SLH. Was she part of Build Lakewood?
*Where does she stand on the pit bull issue?
More broadly, I'd like to know:
*How does she feel about the role of money in politics?
*Did she support Bernie or Hillary? I was part of both campaigns, never saw her at either.
*What direction should the Democratic Party take? Does she support CCPC, or does she believe in the Party Establishment like Perez, DWS, Budish, Jackson, Bullock, etc.?
None of these are "gotcha questions".
Our city, our county, our state, and our nation are in DEEP trouble.
We need leaders that are willing to stand up for something....not candidates that are looking to alienate as few people as possible by making vague generalizations.

Agreed.
That image should be stapled onto every telephone pole in Lakewood. "The Council of Heroes."

I want to be clear.
In my prior post I was speaking figuratively when I suggested that image should be stapled on to telephone poles in Lakewood.
In no way would I ever condone that action.

Did I miss something? I didn't hear anyone mention women's or LGBT issues. As demonstrated by Council (commendably), these are local issues.

We have to get an explanation of the FOP endorsement before we even consider those other issues. By the way, has Lodge 25 FOP taken a position on the assault by a Lakewood Police Officer on a 10 year old girl?
