Free Outdoor Shakespeare in Lakewood Park - June 24 and July 29

Cleveland Shakespeare Festival is currently celebrating its 20th season of offering free outdoor theater to the citizens of the Greater Cleveland area, and we're very happy to return to Lakewood Park with two productions this summer:
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW - Saturday, June 24, 7:00pm
The text of The Taming of the Shrew opens with a rarely-performed introduction that sets up the play as a joke made at the expense of a drunken tavern patron. In our version, the Cleveland chapter of the fictional “Ladies of Good Will” are staging their annual charity fundraiser, and this year’s production is The Taming of the Shrew. The pre-show raffle and bake sale transitions into Shakespeare’s text as the ladies (and a few of their husbands) take their roles and begin.
In this zany comedy, many suitors seek the hand of the beautiful Bianca, but they must first find a match for her older sister, the brash and cunning Katherina. Enter Petruchio, who must find a way into her heart, whether she likes it or not.
MACBETH - Saturday, July 29, 7:00pm
Tempted by the prophecies of three witches, Macbeth's bloodthirsty quest to get and keep the crown leads him into a nightmarish world of deceit, betrayal, murder and madness. A powerful and passionate tale of the destructive power of ambition.
Bring a blanket or a chair. In case of rain, check www.cleveshakes.org for news on alternate indoor venue.
