The Lakewood Democratic Club will meet this month on Thursday, April 27, with guests representing the Ohio Environmental Council and other groups working for clean air, safe water and a sustainable future. The evening's focus is local impacts of climate change and local actions for responding.

Expected speakers are:
  • Heather Taylor-Miesle, Executive Director of the Ohio Environmental Council. Heather will give a brief overview of the OEC, discuss some local impacts of climate change, and talk about how we are working on these issues (and how folks can get involved). Heather has more than 18 years' experience working with our nation’s top decision-makers for environmental and public heath protections.
  • Glenn Campbell, a volunteer with Citizens' Climate Lobby, will discuss carbon fee-and-dividend, a bipartisan idea promoted by CCL. This proposal would place a fee on carbon fuels (coal, oil, gas), but refund all the proceeds to U.S. households in monthly checks. A revenue-neutral carbon tax would encourage the transition to renewable energy.
  • Lakewood Councilman Tom Bullock will present information on behalf of the Climate Action Campaign and the National Wildlife Federation. President Trump's proposed budget would zero out Lake Erie restoration, gut the EPA, and take us back to the days when toxic rivers caught fire. We'll provide postcards to write representatives, and speak up on behalf of our lakes and rivers.
Thursday, April 27, 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30)
Woman's Club Pavilion, Lakewood Park
Meetings are free to attend as a guest!

Someone needs to ask these environmental experts questions about the 1.8 million dollar cliff erosion project that the city wants the tax payers to pay. Everyone should read the article about this in this weeks Observer.
I agree with the author of the article, something stinks, and it ain't the fish!

I'm sure it will be an informative program....however, this needs to be said:

As I've mentioned many times, Tom Bullock is the most disingenuous, dishonest politician I have known in my 26 years of Lakewood politics. I'm sure he'll share some good information at this meeting. HOWEVER.....he is EXACTLY the type of politician that will flip his stance if the price is right.
MARK MY WORDS: If Bullock ever reaches a federal office (for example, Congress).....he will wine and dine with the fossil fuelers at the first chance. After a few donation checks, his stance will "moderate".
This is what has happened to far too many democrats. Unlike the insane GOP, they recognize that climate change is real. However, when push comes to shove, they will side with the oil barons. I ask you: Where were the elected Dems during the DAPL fight? I never heard a peep from Hillary, Schumer, Pelosi, etc.
Other than Bernie, Tulsi Gabbard, and a few others, the Natives were hung out to dry.

Bullock has ALREADY pulled this stunt once. He came to council masquerading as a liberal that was concerned with health care. He got elected, joined the hospital board, and VOILA!....he quickly becomes a CCF stooge. In his endless quest to achieve higher office, he tossed Lakewood Hospital and citizens under the bus in order to curry favor with the corporate elite.

If you want to address environmental issues, my fist advice is "Don't vote for Bullock or any of the other Council puppets". When/if these people reach higher office, they will turn against their voters just like they did on the hospital issue.

The erosion control projects are being paid for by the residents of the Meridian and Winton Place. These projects address the erosion that is occurring at the base of the cliffs at both properties. Both issues had multiple public comment at both committee meetings and at regular council meetings. The projects are being done at the request of the condominium boards at each building.

Chief Gilman

Thanks for stopping by.

I remember the meetings,

have not lived on the Gold Coast for a long time, but I believe there are all sorts off issues that bleed into each other with the condos down there.
