The power line pole in front of Lincoln School got snapped at the base. Power lines kept it up, but blowing in the breeze. Fears of the poles bringing down wires and other poles forced them to close Clifton.

I was in Brooklyn, NY, staying in a brownstone, during Hurricane Irene. Though everyone was preparing for loss of power, there were very few power outages. We slept through a scary, windy night and woke up to a great deal of damage but the electricity did not fail. Much of their power grid has been put underground. The neighborhood we stayed in was as old as most of Lakewood. The power outages experienced here are unacceptable. If they don't care about the residents, the businesses are also losing money. Lakewood's power grid needs serious upgrades.
