Lakewood Community Service supervisor charged with sexually harassing a woman.
The mayor's statement is laughable:
Mr. Alvelo's behavior is not representative of the city workforce into whom the citizens of Lakewood place their trust," Lakewood Mayor Michael P. Summers said in a news release.
Mr Summers. You are a hypocrite.
This isn't the first employee in recent history that was investigated by police and lost their job, so obviously, there is a problem.
What practices do you have in place to prevent this from occurring?

Mayor Summers, aka the
Safety Director for the City of Lakewood, has been repeatedly told for years, shown, and proven he has terrible hiring practices.
To that point so is Bullock, O'Leary, Marx, Anderson.
Negligent or willful? Lakewood's getting a great name for itself under this regime.

Is this the same guy that drives around and sits in a van all day?
If memory serves me, I seem to recall at least one of the persons that drives the prisoners around going to McDonald's for lunch and leaves the prisoners unsupervised. I'm not sure if this was the same guy or not, but I want that job!
One of the articles I read stated that this gentleman has worked for City Hall for six years. It could very well be a coincidence, but it was around six years ago to date that the Summers regime started. Coincidence or not?
With all of the incidents in Lakewood this year, this has been a very, very bad PR year for Summers. Of course, you then have the Deck, where Summers' reputation has pretty much been destroyed, much to the chagrin of the Deck Patrol.
This must have hit a sore spot at City Hall, as all of our city employees appear to be sitting on the computer. The workday is not over yet!

When jobs are posted on the onelakewood site, they usually list the requirements and and necessary steps to be considered. Most of the jobs, including school crossing guard and positions in the building department require a background check.
As in the previous case where a building department employee was harassing residents and subsequently lost his job, it was discovered that he also had a criminal background that was not disclosed on his application. I've asked repeatedly - the position said it required a background check. So what happened? Did the city NOT do the check or did they do it and ignore the results?
Again, this indicates a serious problem with their hiring protocols. You can say you will do a background check, but if you don't bother to do it, why not?
The other alternative is that the check was done but was ignored.
It's just remarkable how sloppy or lax they are in hiring practices!
Or are these cases of looking the other way because they want to gift someone with a cushy city job?
Taxpayers should demand answers here - we are paying people to do their jobs and they don't seem to be doing it.

What about a person lying on an application about arrest record, found out, given another one, which they also lied on? At that point they get a city official to write on it, "no convictions in Lakewood." Which means they knew of all the other convictions outside of Lakewood.
Yes this happened at our city hall, the mayor knew it, council knew, and repeatedly looked the other way.
Welcome to Lakewood.
I have said for years, they are out of control, and have lost their moral compass.

No convictions in Lakewood? That's their criteria?
As they say, WTF?
So you could be a child molester but you got caught in Westlake and so now that's OK with the people that do the hiring in Lakewood?
This gets more and more outrageous!
Thanks Lakewood city administrators and council. Thanks for protecting your citizens, residents, and taxpayers.
You are a bunch of Keystone Kops.

It appears that if you have the right "connections" in the court systems, you can get a person's records expunged.
I wonder if the Mayor had any employee's records expunged?
