The Observation Deck

Can I draft a post, a new topic and save it for later? Or will it be deleted, and lost and have to start all over again? I'm just asking.

I would draft the post in Word or another word processing program and copy and paste it here when you are ready to post it.

Too many times, I have opened my mouth, and sometimes, it would be better to keep it shut. So I'd like the option to "draft a post" and get back to it later, to add on, make changes, alter or delete it, what ever I want.

Like me or not, I have something to say, some not so good. others the bomb. i.e., Lakewood Trash storefronts, pedestrian cross walks, beautiful, efficient apartments.

I'm not out to be-little or condemn anyone, not putting anyone down, you do what you can or want to do to your property, great, but me, I'm just saying, I go way beyond the norm. Your chances for rental success, residential or commercial, is more in your favor, if you offer the upgrade rather than settle for a cleaning and a paint job. You could make, every little thing, in Lakewood better. Who doesn't want better? Get out of town. I want better..... tar and feather me, I don't care... Lakewood deserves better, No, not the best, but it could be better. I am doing my best to make it better. Lead, follow or get out of the way.

there is a timer on log in, and you will be logged out. Always best to craft a long post, or long time writing post in a word processing file.

you can save drafts, we have no access to your personal notes, emails, or drafts.

to be honest, not sure, if there is a mechanism that would dump them, but I'll ask.

I'm just suggesting, if you do better, if you make it better, you may do better, all of Lakewood will do better. This is where you have invested your cash, you want it to fail? Really?

I'm not sure what you've been hearing that doesn't appear in this thread.
But all computers come with a very simple writing program, it's called Notepad in Windows and TextEdit in Mac.
They are no harder to use than an internet browser. You open it, write what you want, save it (giving it a name), and close it. Later you can re-open the file, change it if you want, then use the menus or some other means to "select all", then "copy," then "paste" it in a Deck message.
If you have trouble with that, I'd be glad to walk you through it on the phone.

I also prefer to think about things before I post them and sometimes use that that approach.

There are several things that I've discovered about the internet generally, and the Lakewood Observer Observation Deck particularly.

First a brief background. After Mom died in 2004, and I was approaching retirement from the classroom, I needed to switch gears in life. While taking care of Dad, a friend suggested that I write columns for the Observer. I did that regularly for about 8 years. Many of those are still online in the "Pulse of the City" section of this website. That activity was a real blessing for me. I had to learn how to type my ideas and save them, often needing to re-edit them before submitting to the paper. I also learned how to contribute to this chat room, and try to do so whenever the spirit moves me. The advice you have received here about saving and editing your work is good. There is a way to type what you want in document or wordpad form on your computer, name it, and save it for when you are ready to submit it.

Often, it is better to wait for a bit before you put your thoughts out for all to see. Sometimes, 24 hours can make a world of difference. I wish more of our contributors would do that!

I've met many people personally who post here, and all whom I've met have been great people.

That said, the Good Book tells us "that there are none good, no not one". We have all made mistakes, said too much, or too little, and one thing about the internet that I've observed is that people in general can be far more direct and outspoken online than they are in person. It's almost like they are posting after drinking a couple of shots and a beer. People can be cruel too. They can let their agenda override their manners.

The one thing that I hope that you will take away from this interchange would be that you are accepted here.
