Some music for this story and photo essay.

Back in September.

For those of us who have lived in the city of Lakewood, long enough, remember when the Civic Leaders, many who are leading us now, that saw a future with high end shopping everywhere, and elevated tunnels, enclosed bridges running from the center of the city, Lakewood Hospital, to their planned high end shopping, now called MArc's Plaza, and even to more high end shopping they planned, now called Dollar General, over to the Library!

A whole city of nothing but habitrails for humans. Well today, the only part of their dream/promise was knocked down with a thud. Not a loud thud, but kind of a sad thump. A thump that brought back to everyone around me, the dreams of high end shopping and habitrails, by many of the same people, eagerly calling for the destruction of their unfulfilled promise.

Funny, moments like these let all of us realize, how little Civic leaders actually deliver on, and how much gets swept under the rug.

RETAIL GLUTTONY

A great moniker for what ails us. In a county losing population, yet building more and more retail, as if it will save us!

We are highly "over-retailed" according to all studies and measures, yet our "leaders" continue to push for more shopping and promise it will be "good news."

This is a brief look at the issue, but use an academic search engine and you'll find scores of studies exposing the truth about retail.

We are being sold a falsehood.

Actually we are being sold a load of crap, that is almost 20 years old. Think what has transpired since they promised high end shopping and habitrails in the world.

In Lakewood, they took a little training, went to a couple seminars, and all they have is an old old hammer, so everything looks like a nail.

The sold off the hospital to disguise their utter failures, including "We need to keep the hospital here as an anchor."

The way I see it they gave away the hospital, as we got nothing even close to it's value in return. Even the Foundation's money, most of it donated by Lakewood's citizens, won't be limited to use in Lakewood but the region (and will be controlled by the almighty Clinic).

It's truly all about the $, the people's needs be DAMNED!

What sick leaders we have in office!
