My Progressive Friends,
Have you given any thought to the sexist nature of snow removal in Lakewood?
Well, you should. In Sweden they have recognized the problem and have come up with a solution:

Bill,
I don't think it has anything to do with gender equality in Lakewood, but we definitely need a better plan for the sidewalks, or to put it more precisely, we need a plan.

I liked you a lot better when you were just railing against the hospital deal.

What do you have against gender neutral snow plowing?
We do need a way to keep side walks clear.

Whelp, now that the hospital bonds that tie now reside mostly in the courts, it's time for the regularly scheduled political divisions to re-emerge. Carry on.

As a walker up & down our Lakewood streets, it should be enforced and penalized if not in compliance, whether home owner, renters, businesses, apartments, everyone should clear their sidewalk of snow & ice. Those who do not comply, epically businesses, should be noted in public view, via the LO. and boycott those violators.

In Brooklyn, Ohio - the CITY PLOWS all the sidewalks. They send a little plow machine down all the streets. If we had not just lost $1 million/year of city income tax, we might have been able to afford this too.
We can't keep up with the snow from the city plows throwing the muck all the way across our sidewalk and onto the lawn, and the muck is very heavy and wet and it freezes. There is no way for an individual to keep up with it. Even on the side streets, you clear your driveway apron and the plows throw it back on you.
Three guys on our block, each do the full block when they are out. Two of them have moved, however, leaving the task to my husband.
Having the City plow the sidsewalks would be LOTS more useful than the sunset steps, nice as they are.

The snow plows are most likely speeding to get the job done before the truck breaks down again. Garbage trucks, snow plows, and other city vehicles are breaking down on a daily basis. Hydraulic lines bursting and leaking all over the place, failing transmissions, malfunctioning automated refuse pickup arms, broken lawn mowers and you name it.
It appears that there is no money for working vehicles, but money for solstice steps and a $900,000 fiber-optic system for City Hall and the schools that still doesn't work.
But wait! Mayor/Public Safety Director Michael P. Summers was bragging on Twitter almost two years ago about our new, handy-dandy, state-of-the-art sidewalk plow! Where is it? I have never, ever seen it plowing any sidewalks. Ever. Does it even work or can we not afford a part-time person to drive it?
But have no fear! I'm sure Mayor/Public Safety Director Michael P. Summers will be extremely eager to get his exercise by going around town and manually shoveling sidewalks! I have heard he just loves exercise!

I'm sure our very proactive and attentive council members will do the same!
