Thank you to everyone who worked hard to defeat issue 64.
They were fighting against an issue that at its heart was just a bad real estate deal.
They were fighting against the company in a company town.
They were fighting against a timid Council that refused to fight for the City.
They were fighting against an entrenched bureaucracy that served its own narrow interests.
They were fighting for a better deal.
They were fighting for quality health care.
They were fighting for the people of Lakewood.
When they lost, we all lost.
Supporters of issue 64 have succeeded.
They have succeeded in destroying an institution.
They have succeeded in transferring millions of City dollars to private institutions.
They have succeeded in turning Lakewood into a healthcare desert.
Are they celebrating?
The essence of the deal was the desire of a small group to convert the public assets of the City to private use. All the other promises were just window dressing.
The fight goes on.
