Members of the Lakewood Democratic Club have been kicked out of the club just hours before tonight's big vote on Issue 64.

Letter provided by resident and LO Contributor, Tristan Rader

Sources indicate that cameras will be banned from tonight's meeting at Lakewood Women's Pavilion.

This is an outrage!

Is this how low we have sunk in Lakewood?

Banning groups, purging members, refusing to allow cameras at public events (like at the League of Women Voters debate, as well), kicking people out of stores, sending anonymous letters, filing frivolous lawsuits ......

Is this the Lakewood we want?

Is the the Lakewood we accept?

Now is the time to SPEAK FREE. Do not let them silence us.

Keep speaking out LOUDER.

Sources indicate that the club has hired extra security for tonight's meeting.

So they can keep us under control?

This is utter BS.

Is this the "leadership" we have in Lakewood? Squander our assets and when people complain you sue them, kick them out of the community groups, and hire police to control them?

Here's a fun game, for those with time.

Try to find the various rules and policies cited, in the letter to Mr. Rader, in the Lakewood Democratic Club's bylaws. See if you can turn up words like "decorum" or "photo" or "private."

Hmmm.

Time for a legitimate lawsuit.

If they are comfortable doing so, they should post the letters here.

Apparently, I have accidentally joined the Lakewood Nazi Party Club and not the Lakewood Democratic Club.

You would only ban cameras if you are doing something WRONG or something you are ashamed of doing. They have not been banned in the past.

This Lakewood Democratic Club should be ashamed of how they have been treating their own members.

A Club that you the member, don't know who else belongs.

A Club whose current bylaws are not posted on the website for members to read. There is no provision for Throwing members out or for the use of cameras at functions in the bylaws found online.

A Club that has only room for 1 side of every issue. That no discussion of important matters is allowed.

A Club in which those that do not agree with the "leadership" of this group and the political "powers" behind said leadership are ostracized. Called troublemakers or worse. OR ARE THROWN OUT!!!

This is a sad, sad day for the Lakewood "democratic" Club in a recent string of sad days. They have shown their true colors and those colors do not involve Red -White- and Blue of the spirit of our great nation.

Chicken "Yellow" would be what I see. And I apologize to chickens everywhere.

I would like to know where my council person, Dan O'Malley, stands on this troubling development.

Pam,

Great post.

Speaking of the Nazi Party, wasn't the reason that so many people followed the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler was because they were convinced that it was the only way to make Germany strong? Also, didn't the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler use intimidation tactics to sway or silence those that opposed them?

Fast-forward to 2016, and we have a mayor and a group of about roughly 100 of his followers seemingly telling us that we must vote for his plan in order to keep Lakewood and its healthcare strong. From what I have heard and from police reports and public records, some city leaders are allegedly using intimidation tactics to sway or silence those that oppose them. Isn't the Lakewood Democratic Club's alleged banning of cameras another possible attempt to intimidate or silence opposition? It should be noted that until Save Lakewood Hospital members began attending the meetings, I believe that the club was mostly polluted with Summers and his cronies.

The issue in Nazi Germany was that not enough people realized what was happening and spoke up until it was too late. Use your voice while you still have it. Vote against 64 in November.

You hit the nail on the head with this, Pam. I was just thinking of how much many of these shenanigans resemble those used by the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler. I am not at all saying that they are even close to being in the same category, but it is interesting to note the apparent similarities between the governing styles.

In my opinion, Summers is not a leader of a city. He is a divider and is the leader of a cult. What is next? Tearing down the women's pavilion to put in a Jacuzzi and private, full-service bar for the mayor? :D

All hail the king! :D

Oh my, it's all over Twitter and Facebook!

Multiple people have been "purged."

The "purge" letters all claim that a Dem club member or members challenged the person's membership, but they don't have the guts to say WHO complained.

Are the people "in charge" STUPID!?!? This looks really bad - a DESPERATE attempt to salvage their control of the club.

Well considering I have heard Dan describe Tristan as "The most democratic person in Lakewood."

I bet he is amazed.

As I said over a year ago, it is going to get dirty, and nasty.

6 lawsuits, and all sorts of lies and bullshit, we are only half way there.

There is the election, then the recalls, then more lawsuits...

The only way to get through this is Vote Against 64, lets see the paperwork, and go from there.

Nothing else makes sense.

Jim, Sorry but amazed doesn't cut it.

Does he support this action or does he oppose it.

I saw Mr. O'Malley was on here moments ago and I had hoped he'd take the opportunity to state his position.

I want to know where my city council person stands with regards to this ham-fisted attempt to subvert democracy.

I left that question on the Lakewood Dem Club Facebook Page, and tagged our City Council members.
We will see if anyone chimes in.

I noticed that the letter that went out to Mr. Rader is signed on "behalf of the members of the Lakewood Democratic Club". I have been a member of the Club since 2011. I was not consulted or asked to vote to revoke the membership of any member of the Club. The Club has not had a general meeting since last month and so voting members of the Club were not part of any decision to weigh-in on challenges to anyone's membership.
