Mayor Summers' Comments At School Dedication

This will be moved to new school thread.
Last night at the Dedication for Grant School Mayor Summers hit on a couple points that bears repeating. In my humble opinion.
Mayor Michael P. Summers attended Lakewood Schools, put his kids through Lakewood Schools, and served on the School Board and possibly the 50 year committee. As such he deserves a pat on the back, along with everyone that has worked on this. This is a major moment for Lakewood, no matter where you send your kids, and we would hope they are Lakewood Schools.
A community, dedicated to Education, and Youth always has a smart future ahead of it.
So hear are the comments!

Principle from Grant when Tom Einhouse went their, Carl Lockhard, age 91, speaks with Mayor Michael P. Summers. Summers addresses the crowd.
From Mayor Michael P. Summers
GRANT: We can imagine a very similar crowd gathering close to this very spot in the 1960’s with equal confidence in the future.
Roosevelt & Lincoln : We can imagine a very similar crowd gathering close to this very spot in the 1920’s with equal confidence in the future. The buildings they built served us well for almost a century.
We often speak of think about Lakewood’s 2nd century. It is fitting that we start this century with a renewed commitment to our youth.
This moment has been over 16 years in the making- three superintendents, 10 school board members, Scores of School mangers, and hundreds and hundreds of citizens worked hard to get here.
This community has three times expressed great confidence in its future by taxing itself to invest in education. By doing so, it has demonstrated its commitment to our youth and their future.
Lakewood stands apart from its peers in the region and throughout the state. This is especially true among the 19 inner ring suburbs surrounding Cleveland., We are unique in our re-emerging vitality of our neighborhoods, our housing quality, our commercial corridors, our walkability, and overall quality of life.
We epitomize the essence of new urbanism. Our improving financial strength allows us to confront our challenges with confidence and be a partner in the investment of our future
Thank you citizens
Thank you Board of education and Supt Patterson and school leaders. A very challenging job well done!!
Congratulations to the community of Lakewood. Here’s to our 2nd century!!
