Hmmm, the brand new parking lot on the south side of the school was a lake yesterday and all night.

Did you get a photo? Did you call Board office?
Now is the time to call this stuff out, before they pack up and leave.
Also they sometimes place netting on sewers when construction is being done. I do not know that is the case here, but always better to bring it up now.
I think the city will be very proud of what they have built together.
There is no better statement for a community than "We believe in Education."

I didn't take one immediately cause I assumed it would drain out quickly. But then when I went out after 11 I saw it was still flooded. My camera doesn't do a very good job in the dark. By 10 in the morning when I went out to walk the dogs, it was gone and they were painting lines for a basketball court (I will have to bring that up in a later post).

I'll also say that I don't understand why the inside of the school has to be entirely lit up every night. There's probably a good reason, but it seems really wasteful. I want lakewood schools to be a shining beacon of hope and knowledge, but...

The silt barriers are still covering the storm drains so the rain water is not draining as quickly as it will when the work is completed. All the new schools still have the barriers in place so the storm water pools around the drains.

Lakewood Schools will barely make their opening for the school year, but should do it with very few issues. But they are also getting ready for the ground breaking tours, and that has them working around the clock when they can.
I have a call in to ask why there could be other reasons.

I dunno about that Jim - the lights have been on all night all summer (or since the electricity went in). I don't see anyone working in there late at night. For most of the 2 years nobody has been there after about 3, which is kinda standard on construction sites.

Leaving the lights on once installed is pretty typical on construction sites until occupancy, or until the controls/occupancy sensors are put in and fully functional. Building sites often leave the lights on at night for safety and security reasons- so you can see if unauthorized people are in there after hours and also so that workers arriving early or leaving late don't have to stumble about to find the place to switch lights on/off. Most buildings are not fully secure until close to the end of construction when locks and security cams are installed, so this is used as a security measure or deterrent and the building is fully lit up.
Once the building is done and occupied, it will likely have controls and only minimal (for security cameras) or emergency lighting should be on at night.

Thanks for the answers Valerie and Chief Gilman. I went across to look and I see the covered drain now. That explanation about lighting/security makes perfect sense too.
