If the people vote against the Hospital deal then the original agreement remains in force. The original agreement required the Clinic to maintain a full service hospital in substantially the the same condition as an on going concern.

The agreement also required the Clinic to maintain the property including the parking garage. The original agreement also was quite clear that ALL of the $165 million in assests belonged to the City and not the Clinic or secret Foundations.

If the Clinic is unable to restore what it destroyed then the City is entitled to financial compensation. Something like $350 million.

Since the City received NOTHING for the Hospital we have nothing to lose.

The people have never had a chance to vote on the "Most Corrupt Deal in Lakewood's History"--it was passed a month after the election and was $20M worse that the original LO. No member of Council or even Summers are able to articulate the terms of the deal or any tangible benefits to the residents or the underserved (who all suffer under the "deal"). For example, Summers and City Hall cannot defend the alleged $78M in wind down costs Summers claims justified giving away over $70M of assets to CCF for FREE! Why?

So justice will be served when the people have their voice in November. This is great news.

Knowing this, I just can't fathom how city council could have delayed the referendum vote in March? Closing the greatest economic asset of our community, without a solid plan to fill the million dollar void in income tax revenue? The snowball effect of the closing is already rolling! Hospice of the Western Reserve has moved to Fairview Park... more job losses and an even larger hole in tax revenue. How much more can we lose before our city leaders recognize the damage they have caused, and continue to cause, by delaying the vote?

Furthermore, I wonder what strategies they will employ to justify keeping it closed, especially after all the truthful revelations that it was indeed FINANCIALLY VIABLE?

I also wonder what happens with LHF? From all the council meetings where Jay Carson made public comments to support closing the hospital, I wonder what fallback this will have on his foundation?

We all know, the income tax issue is a one million dollar hole each year in the city's budget that council said "yes" to.

But, the real loss is the $250+ million each year (!) in economic impact to the city of Lakewood as a whole by having an operating inpatient hospital. The Clinic's numbers were even higher than that ($277 million) in economic impact. Staggering!

10 years = $2.88 BILLION of economic activity lost in Lakewood during the next 10 years.

Killing our economic engine was NOT a good thing!

There is NOTHING - absolutely NOTHING - that can replace our hospital with 1100 jobs paying $59,000/year. No bars, no rec centers, no condos, no ---- NOTHING!

This is the biggest fraud/hoax in the history of this Region.

Unbelievable damage! Thank you Marguerite for providing this vital information. Clearly, we should fight to repeal the ordinance and demand retribution.

Our city finance director should have been forthcoming and warned the constituents of these devastating economic consequences. Instead, she published misleading and confusing information warning constituents that it would be costly to each taxpayer if we kept the hospital open. Yet, our tax dollars NEVER supported the operation of the hospital! Is this representation of the people or the corporation? Furthermore, where is the accountability for such a mistake?

So the plan for the hospital should be to fight to save it... for those reasons so eloquently stated by Bill.
