Did you know that July 4th is the time when pets go missing THE MOST? Our shelters are full as it is, our rescues are full as well. (I am bursting at the seams and it is not getting better) This is when I am coming out to remind everyone, please please please have CURRENT tags on your dogs (cats) at all times, and if you have not please microchip your pet. If your pet is chipped, please make sure the info is up to date. The thought of your pet or another pet dying in a shelter from lack of space and no identification is sad. (also it is the law that your pet be licensed with the county)
Also please know that Melatonin and Benadryl is safe for dogs (please double check with your vet) and that will help them stay calm during this time. A frozen Kong with peanut butter and treats will be a great distraction as well. If you do have to leave your house, a crate will come in handy to keep your pet secure. If you are hosting a cookout or party, please please please check your doors/windows so your pet does not escape.
