As noted in the latest print version of the Observer, there will not be a school levy on the ballot in November.
Details are in the article:

I think it was a wise decision.....anyone else have thoughts?

Just wait til next year!!

especially with all of these tax abatements that are being handed out like crazy. We are so screwed, not this year, but once the snowball starts rolling downhill, it will become an avalanche quickly.

While I am happy to hear that, I cannot help but wonder if it's an effort to help the opposition to the hospital issue on the November ballot. A levy or any request to raise taxes will invariably bring up the topic of the revenue loss from the hospital closure. Though property tax is separate from income taxes, it gets people talking about how much they pay to live here and undoubtedly influence how they might vote regarding the loss of our largest employer.

It's easy to be cynical in this city.

If the schools do pass another levy, I am hoping that they use some of the money to repair the cracked, broken concrete sidewalks around most of the schools. Emerson, Frankln, the Central Office, and Harrison all come to mind.

How's about kudos to the school board and the administration for keeping an eye on daily finances and the vigorous competition of the School Board campaigns that keeps everybody on their toes?
