Lake Shore Towers has had a bed bug problem, and it appears the building ownership has been billing residents for the cost of extermination. Many residents are low-income, so this is quite a burden.
City Council is looking into the matter, since they believe it's illegal for a landlord to directly pass that cost to residents.
Ward 4 Council Member Dan O'Malley sent the attached letter to building ownership, we'll see what happens.

Great job, Councilman in looking out for the people you represent. This is the way the system is SUPPOSED to work.

Yes, good job holding Showe Management's feet to the fire. Listening to all the residents who've pleaded with City Council to do something you can only get the impression there is a real crisis brewing on the gold coast these days.
Building facade's crumbling, ceiling's collapsing, no heat in some units for years, bed bug infestations and the hardship that comes with treating the apartments. It's crazy and shocking, frankly, how some of these residents are being treated.
Management companies like this one have got to stop breaking the laws and start treating their tenants with respect or they should be run out of town. The testimony given to City Council during the March 21st meeting is shocking. It can be viewed on onelakewood.com right now.
I sure hope this letter wakes them up, for the sake of the residents and Lakewood's reputation as a great place to live.
