Around 8pm Lakewood Fire and Police were called to 1116 Cook Ave. because of strange smells coming from the basement.

Image
Upon arriving at the location the Fire Department could tell that there was the smell of flammables in the air, and they got stronger towards the basement.

Image
Because of the proximity of the smells to the basement which had open flames, they secured the area and entered the rental.

Because of poor radio reception in the area it is unclear what was going on back and forth when the Fire Department plow and pick up arrived, and Firemen started to leave and pack up the lab equipment.

With the problem found, and fixed, Cook starts to return to normal.

The offending liquid was believed to be potato vodka, but will be sent to a lab to make sure.

The single biggest problem seems to be: 1) Flammable liquids next to open flame. We have had a bunch of house burn because of this. Paint and solvents stacked near boilers, furnaces and chimneys. 2) Open pots of extremely flammable liquid. Anyone that has been around moonshine can attest for how flammable it is. Lack of regulations on the burners.

Thank you Lakewood Fire and Police for another job well done.

Nothing to see, move along.
