OHSAA Hoops: St. Ed 79, North Royalton 61

This one was a lot closer than the score. North Royalton came out with great energy, and led 20-15 after the first quarter.
The Eagles came back to take a 5 point lead in the closing seconds of the half, but North Royalton guard Denny Davidovic drained a three at the buzzer to make it a 31-29 St. Ed lead at the intermission. The underdog Bears kept Eagle guard Sean Flannery in check during the first half, enabling them to hang with the Eagles.
North Royalton came out firing in the second half, scoring two unanswered three pointers in the first 1:45 of the third quarter. The partisan North Royalton crowd went crazy as the Bears had a five point lead on the favored Eagles. The enthusiasm wouldn't last much longer, as St. Edward went on a 13-0 run in two minutes and twenty seconds to take a 49-36 lead with 3:10 left in the third. North Royalton was never able to cut the lead under ten, and St. Edward pulled away in the fourth quarter for a hard-fought win.
Flannery led the Eagles with 19 points, including a pair of critical three pointers early in the Eagles third quarter scoring rush.
St. Edward will next play on Saturday at the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State. Their opponent will be the winner of tomorrow night's St. Ignatius/Brecksville-Broadview Heights game.
I'll post photos when I get them sorted.
