I hope someone (perhaps Woody, Christine or Kristine) can help me out.
Like many people, I'm not clear on the governance structure of Lakewood City Schools.

We have an elected school board and an appointed Superintendent.

*What are the specific duties assigned to each of these?
*Does the school board's authority supercede the Superintendent, or are the two considered "co-equal"?
*If the Superintendent and the Board disagree on a matter, who has the final say?

The specific duties are to overspend what money they have and ask for levies every election cycle.

The school board is as out of control as City Hall. The bleeding is going to have to stop soon. Once we lose the Hospital income tax dollars, we are all going to be screwed.

And Ms. Petrie-Barcelona needs to be kept in check. The fox is guarding the hen house.

The job of the school board is to set the overall educational policies, goals and plans. They then hire the Superintendent and Treasurer to execute their vision for the school district. The Superintendent runs the day to day stuff while the school board oversees and evaluates the Superintendent’s job performance. In the end the school board is in charge and can fire the Superintendent.
